Several employees at a plant in Detroit called Tower Defense and Aerospace were caught drinking booze and smoking marijuana during their afternoon break for lunch.
Tower Defense and Aerospace makes armored parts for U.S. military trucks and planes. According to the WJBK-TV report the plant makes "parts for Humvees and Stryker combat vehicles destined for Afgahnistan and Iraq.

I worked for about 4 months at Electric Boat in Groton Ct as an apprentice Ship Fitter. (I was between my Junior and Senior year of college. Broke and not sure I was going to be able to finish my degree.) At lunch time you could see hundreds of guys lighing joints and most of those who weren’t smoking dope were in the numerous bars at the gate throwing down as many beers as humanly possible in a hour’s time. BTW...this is where they build the Navy’s Nuclear Submarines, at least those that weren’t built in Newport News.
They say that the company is aware of the problem and they are addressing it. I guess that really means that they would like to fire these criminal thugs, but the unions won’t let them and Carl Levin doesn’t want anything to happen to his voting base. Hard to believe that this is happening in Detroit.
The video is a disgrace. These are obama voters!
Gosh, I wonder if I can sue, or my son, who was critically injured, and two of his buddies killed when the body armor on their vehicle failed.
It was a huge IED, but after reading this, I’m pissed all over again!
I am so sorry...what a horrific story to have to read after what your son has gone through. I cannot help but think that those who are getting high and/or drinking during the day like this will do a good job of revenge against themselves for you. I pray that is so...or, better yet, that they have a change of heart and straighten out their lives.

Having worked on defense contracts for 30 years I suspect the “quality” of the workmen is related to politics. For example, in my most recent two jobs the companies got tax credits from the city/county for employing people off the welfare rolls. I witnessed that numerous black males carried guns on the premises and drank alcohol and smoked crack during breaks. (My boss literally screamed at me to get the evidence out of his office.)
The federal government insists that defense contractors have a quota of minorities and that there be a representative sample of highly remunerated minority employees. This lead to no drug screening at all, as Caucasians at these facilities routinely passed and minorities did not. To avoid the appearance of racism and problems with EOE the companies involved (two of them) stopped everything but the pre-employment screen.
If you want a drug free workplace, you have to be ready willing and able to fire offenders without government, union or personal lawsuit repercussions.

This isn’t unique: there are a lot of workers out there who smoke weed and drink on the job. And not just line workers—office workers and execs too.
This was right after I had gotten my security clearance and sure as hell did not have a criminal record otherwise I would not have been cleared.
But then again I am in the group which is the last remaining one where discrimination is not only tolerated but encouraged.
Tower likely won contracts because it provides employment in an economically depressed, minority area.
