The immune system of most gay guys are under a WAY higher degree of compromise than straights —the typical LISTED cause of death of men with AIDS at least in San Francisco is pneumonia or tuberculosis.
Their immune system is constantly having to fight off bad stuff, so they finally fall prey to something opportunistic —that’s true even if they don’t have AIDS, actually.

Had a gay co-worker who died from pneumonia related complications. He was smart and skilled at his work. Sad to see him go but his lifestyle and AIDS got him.
He was very unabashed and outspoken about his gayness.
He was a likeable guy nonetheless. Oh well.
