STOCKTON, Calif. (KCRA) -- Earlier this year, a Stockton student was handcuffed with zip ties on his hands and feet, forced to go to the hospital for a psychiatric evaluation and was charged with battery on a police officer. That student was 5 years old.
Michael Davis is diagnosed with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder or ADHD. His mother says it has led to fights at school. But when the school district said it had a plan to change Michael's behavior, his mother says things went wrong.
"Michael is energetic," Thelma Gray said. "He is one big ball of energy."
Gray calls Michael a comedian. She says his biggest problem is his ADHD stops him from thinking before he acts or speaks.
"He's very loving," Gray said. "He's a good kid and he's not the discipline problem that he was made out to be."
Those discipline problems include fights with other students, even throwing a chair.
Gray says the school, Rio Calaveras Elementary of Stockton, wanted to change that behavior by having Michael meet with a school police officer.

children that are out of control with mental issues can bite and human bites are more dangerous than dog bites, they can also head butt, breaking noses.
Moreover, the child can hurt himself with headbanging etc.
At some point, the officers had to make a decision. I would want to know the whole story of the episode.
In the old days, this kid would be dead or institutionalized pretty soon.
Tmes have changed.
That’s why we see this stuff in schools, etc. that we never used to..add to that the general lack of discipline, we’ve got a mess for a teacher to try to deal with and teach.
Why do they allow frightened geldings who quiver at the sight of a 5-year old to become police officers?
Perhaps one problem is that the schools would rather drug kids into submission than teach them how to live with their behavior.
He needs an outlet for his energy. He needs classes that involve a lot of activity. And he needs good discipline.
Cop is a loser
5 year old handcuffed... What were you thinking officer? No matter what, a 5year old is not dangerous.

Ding ding ding!
We have a winner!
ROTFLMAO!
I can empathize with you. We homeschooled from the get go, because the school system was so bad, but also because there was no way our daughter and the school were going to peacefully coexist.
As far as other reasons for behavioral problems, I also understand. Ours had a pretty strong issue with dairy products. We thought it was just intestinal type problems, but discovered that if we fed her dairy several days in a row she turned into a little monster (figure about 1-1/2 to 2 yo). Easily remedied in her case. But, that was not the reason for HSing. She was too smart, too high strung and too much of a perfectionist. She needed the kind of handling that the school system was incapable of. All problems were Ritalin problems. They were drugging every non compliant kid into submission. The numbers were ugly, IMO.
My point is that you are correct, but statistically you are the exception. If I had to bet based on just what is in this piece, I'm going to bet on what I said. Sure I could be wrong. But it's a lot more likely I'm going to win than if I bet the other way.
We have these discussions on FR all the time where we have to extrapolate from the limited information we get. The thing I have noticed is some of us tend to go from the micro to the macro in our interpretations. That's the wrong direction logically.
Chuckle.
Keep talking like that and you made need a trip to the hoosegow for a little attitude adjustment.
I wonder if he had to call for back up?
Reads as though The Board of Eduction needs to be applied to the Seat of Knowledge.
Nobody needed drugs.
And back in the old days, nobody was stupid enough to think little boys and little girls should be forced to react in ways that were convenient to their teachers, but against human nature.
Poor teachers!
If they could gain the power to force their students to uniformly comply, the job of teaching the little brats would be soo much easier!
.
Did the cop shoot the suspect with 22 bullets?
Decades ago, I knew a rambunctious little boy who had to sit QUIETLY in church for 1 very long hour. Same for the ladies apparel dept. at Gayfers, & numerous other places.
That little boy didn't like it one bit! But the huge, tail-swatting hand was always quicker than the child, & had a vise grip. The lesson was quickly learned.
The boy survived, didn't become a mass murderer or anything bad, & society was a little better for it.
I'd say the kid in this story would fit right in at any OWS protest.
Yes. The cop fired 22 bullets of caliber .45! :)
Since he is so young, definitely check with your pediatrician. Candidas Albicans can cause a lot of problems if unchecked, including problems concentrating, mood swings, problems sleeping, chronic fatigue, etc.
My son couldn't do milk either.
Yes. Meanwhile, why is a 5-yo boy being forced to sit quietly in a chair as if he were a compliant 9-yo girl? Most 5 -yo boys just are not ready for the government school routine of “shut up and obey my orders.” It takes time to break their spirit.
Mama needs to be home for her son, and son needs to have a full-time father to help him expend some of that NORMAL boy energy.
oh, and cop needs to find another line of work.
