Nov 21, 2011 Rush Limbaugh Says First Lady Was Booed Partly Because NASCAR Fans Hate Her Uppityism
On Sunday, First Lady Michelle Obama and Dr. Jill Biden visited Homestead Miami speedway to serve as ceremonial grand marshals of the Ford 400, where some in the crowd booed them.
The White House downplayed the incident today, with the First Ladys communications director Kristina Schake saying only that Mrs. Obama was proud to join NASCAR in recognizing our nations veterans and military families to raise awareness of this important issue for all Americans. As she has always said, she will proudly stand with anyone making a major commitment to serve and honor our military community and yesterday, NASCAR did just that.
On his radio show today, conservative talk show host Rush Limbaugh gave many reasons for why he thought they were booed.
Citing the 2008 incident where then-Sen. Obama was secretly recorded at a fundraiser describing small town Pennsylvanians in hard economic times as getting bitter and cling(ing) to guns or religion or antipathy to people who arent like them or anti-immigrant sentiment or anti-trade sentiment as a way to explain their frustrations, Limbaugh said people that go to NASCAR races are the very people her husband called bitter clingers.

“It has a long history in the Southuppity n****r. It was an unfortunate choice of words by Limbaugh.”

Oh please! Sorry, but Rush knows exactly what he’s doing. Good grief, it is beyond embarrassing watching folks like you continually accepting the MSM and Left’s premises.
John Boehner...is that you?
When did Wookies get outlawed on FR?
Didn’t you get the memo? It has been decided that a lot of words and phrases are now racist, e.g., niggardly, tar baby, tar pit, uppity, tar and feather, niggardly, Little Black Sambo (who was from India and wasn’t even black, LOL) call a spade a spade, lynching, lynch mob, picnic, on and on.
Because our side needs to quit shying away from confrontations.
Because we need to show our enemies they won't back us down from what we know to be right.
Because we need to stare them dead in the eye and dare them to knock the chips off our shoulders.
Because our side has been a bunch of cowards for far too long.
Because our enemies need to get pissed off, and we need to do the off-pissing.
Because we need to quit apologizing and start kicking ass.
Because we're never going to take our nation back with political correctness.
We have a fight on our hands, and the very survival of our nation is at stake. If we don't even have the guts to use words, and use them properly, in the proper context, without backing down when some PC stooge feigns offense over it, then we should just make like a congressional "super committee" and throw in the towel. 'Cause we'll never be able to muster the courage to do what's necessary to win our freedom back from the tyrants, and earn our birthright as Americans.
Scouts Out! Cavalry Ho!
Yeah, I heard him say it today and knew it was going to cause a media hubbub. But I think Rush is setting them up. He put the word in context in his very next sentence and made it clear that he wasn’t using it in a racial way. He explained that Michelle’s extravagant travel is going way beyond the expected norm for first ladies, and in that sense is uppity. He’s going to play the audio tomorrow and make them look silly. And all the while they have carried his water for him by calling attention to the notion of her being uppity at a time when people are feeling pretty non-uppity themselves.
So you are suggesting that we intentionally insult people because we are shying away from confrontation.
In my world if you start a discussion by insulting someone, it ends up in an unnecessary fight.
I appreciate your stance on this, but I think you are fighting the wrong fight here.
I am not saying we should call Christmas Trees, Holiday trees. We are together on that.
I AM suggesting that calling Michelle Obama “Uppity” simply plays into the left’s presentation of us as racist. There are so many better words to use.
Rush is no idiot. He knew what he was saying, he knew it would incite the left, and he knew it would be suggested he was being racist.
It is a bad example to fight over.

I heard it live and wondered if the Media would pick up on it.
Actually I knew they would, but I thought it would take a little longer to become a Federal Case.
Yep my mama was after me being uppity. Kinda reminds me of Al Gore “You don’t have to get snippy about it”. Is uppity black and snippy white? or is one north and one south? PC is taking away good words.
Wow... I had at least a little respect for Tapper, but that’s definitely gone.
I listened to Rush’s show (as I usually do) and never heard anything like what Tapper claims.
From Rush’s website the uppity-ism quote.
The NASCAR crowd doesn’t quite understand why when the husband and the wife are going to the same place, the first lady has to take her own Boeing 757 with family and kids and hangers-on four hours earlier than her husband, who will be on his 747. NASCAR people understand that’s a little bit of a waste. They understand it’s a little bit of uppity-ism. First ladies have not been known to hop their own 757s four hours ahead of their husband when they’re both going to the same place. The NASCAR people and the rest of the country are not so hip to 12- and 15-day vacations in Spain with 35 people along for the ride while they can’t get work, while they can’t get raises. While the price of gasoline is going up and the price of jet fuel and airline tickets, the Obamas are flying around like nothing costs them anything. Oh, it doesn’t. Sorry.
Not a clueful move on the part of Zero's campaign. All it accomplished was making us Zero haters more aware of our numbers!
Boy...Boy...Boy...
Hey Boy...you got a Birth Citificate?
Hey Boy...you love America?
Hey Boy...you got a fat assed wife who also loves America?
Three questions...three NO’s!
We will probably be hearing from the “Official” Obama criticizer tomorrow.
“There is a long history of the term uppity negro going back to slave days.”
That’s true, but only someone with a niggardly vocabulary would bitterly cling to one single understanding of the word ‘uppity’; it’s a word with several applications, depending on context. You just choose to be obtuse - do you vote Democrat or Independent?.
I agree with you, when the offense is gratuitous it is difficult to condone.
However, we must keep in mind that the offense can be rational, one might even say, "objective" or the offense can be irrational, the product of ignorance, self absorbed, subjective in the extreme, or even contrived.
For example, consider the use of the word "niggardly" as it was properly and quite inoffensively used by members of the City Council to refer to budget funding provisions and was perfectly proper in the context, having no conceivable inference whatever as a racial slur. The offense which was taken was derived purely out of ignorance. Yet, those who were offended in the their ignorance had their way and the innocent who uttered the word was forced to capitulate. This climbdown was required even though a full explanation was made exonerating the utterer of the word. Political correctness once again prevailed over reason.
When the offense is ill considered and especially when contrived for political advantage, it must be resisted. The question is whether we should condone and even defend its gratuitous use in order to protect the language from depredations by the left?
Canada and Europe have shown us the tyranny which inevitably comes at the bottom of this slippery slope. These areas have criminalized giving offense, worse, the offense is subjective. Canada, at least, is reportedly contemplating repealing this invidious statute and no one would be more pleased that Marc Stein.
He who controls the language ultimately controls the culture and eventually controls our politics.
Sorry, it is called, BACKCAR. As in Baby Got Back! Built by WhattaBurger. Not Fix-Up-Leak or Gorilla Glue.
If ABC News says it, does anyone see or hear it?
