What’s next, Obama headlining the Grand Old Opry?

If that happens, it would be the oddest thing at the GOO since Porter Wagoner had James Brown (yes, that James Brown) as a guest back in the 1970's. The audience was rather stuned.

After the opening medley, Brown’s announcer repeated “James Brown!” as the singer left the stage amid small applause. But then, the announcer started, “James! Come back out here! Y’all want to hear MORE?” A number of audience members could be heard shouting “NO!” while others responded with polite applause.

It’s interesting that James Brown was an admirer of country music and called it “White man’s blues”. There’s many similarities between the two styles.
