• A message from Tokyo to Washington advised the Japanese embassy that they should listen for a warning on the Japanese language short wave news broadcast in the event of an emergency. This would be the well know 'Winds Code' with HIGASHI NO KAZEAME (East Wind Rain) in case danger is U.S., KITANOKAZE KUMORE (North Wind Cloudy) U.S.S.R. and NISHI NO KAZE HARE (West Wind Clear) if Britain. This message was sent in the low grade J-19 code.

• Five trainloads of German Jewish deportees are sent to Kovno. All of these Jews are killed on arrival.
