I think Harrison has held up much better than Carrie. She looks more like Jabba the Hut now.

I agree 100%. Space:1999 gets dissed—and deserves it—for many things, but it was at least different. Each week was like a Gothic in space—space was SCARY. The characters acted like adults—I could imagine Landau’s character watching one of Kirk’s histrionic explosions and saying “Calm down.”
It’s at least WEIRD. The other two are so bland.

Space 1999 definitely had it moments. Also, Blake’s 7 was rather interesting.

Star Trek made Star Wars possible.. and several(many) other iterations..No it didn't. Had nothing to do with it, and SF was considered box office poison--if anything, the studio could point to how ST was never a ratings-getter as proof investing in SF was a waste of money. In fact, Star Wars showed there was a broad audience for SF, and made the Star Trek follow-ups possible--Star Trek The Motion Picture was made to cash in on the Star Wars craze.
And Forbidden Planet made Star Trek possible.

Both Star Wars an Star Trek were tainted a bit by leftism, but Star Trek much more than Star Wars. At least in Star Wars, the good guys are fighting for a republic, and against tyranny. In Star Trek, the “good guys” are basically the USSR of space, and the closest thing to capitalists are the Ferengi, which are painted as petty, amoral, greedy hucksters.
