HE was heading for a pan of boiling water, ready to be served up for dinner.
But this electric-blue lobster has given scientists food for thought instead because of its colour.
The eye-catching crustacean named Lionel was caught by fishermen off Scotland and sent to a London market.

But fishmonger Rex Goldsmith thought he was too beautiful to eat and bought him for a tenner before handing him over to the Natural History Museum.
Rex, 45, who saw Lionel at Billingsgate Market while buying supplies for his Chelsea Fishmonger shop, said: Its the most striking blue lobster I have seen in 30 years in the business and was too nice to put in a pot and boil.
The museum believes the European lobster, usually a much darker shade of blue, has a rare genetic variant.
Lionel will go on display at the London Aquarium well it would be shellfish not to show him off.

    Day 48 Of The FReepathon
 Do You Know Why?

There are loyal posters that donate every FReepathon. Some donate several times during every 'thon. But others never donate. Why?

1 My enemies haven't been zotted.
2 The owner doesn't support my candidate.
3 FR won't "upgrade" to "Like" buttons and blinky crap.
 4 Someone else will donate.
 5 My friend was zotted.
6 I lost my job and have no income.

Only one of those is a legitimate reason.

He’s just cold. Stick him in a pot of hot water and he’ll taste fine.

    Aaah, he’s real purdy.

    It’s probably not methemoglobinemia . . . . that turns people blue.

Unlike red lobsters.
I don’t know, I don’t see too many ‘Blue Lobster’ restaurants so they must be doing something right.

Surprising that it lived tghat long..In nature..mutations involving color usually do not survive..because they cant hide in their environment..I doubt it was pulled from shallow water. It was probably deeper in blue water.
