After the laughable flirtation with Bachmann, the wishful thinking on Palin and Christie, the Paulbots, the Perry bubble and the Cain fling...there stands Mr. Newt.

I'm not a Gingrich fan and there are questions I would need answered before going all in for him as the nominee. But there he stands as the voting is set to begin next month. He is clearly the best debater, more conservative than Romney and hates the MSM. Was the candidate of our dreams there all along?

What say you FR? I'm not Gingrich fan

Newt is a smart man, but he’s a one-worlder, and still believes in AGW.

He is also a beltway insider.

If he were sincere, which I don’t think he is, he could get a lot done.

He is just being put up by the elites to divide the conservative vote.

IMO, Newt stands no chance of winning the election.

Neither does Mitt.

I believe that’s the plan handed down from the elites.

The Republicans are determined to run another loser in the next election.

Here's my prediction! If Cain tanks and Gingrich takes the sustained lead, he's next on the unfounded accusations scene. From other dalliances (real or not) to Callista's former boyfriends (with one or two 'real' married ones)....

Only the nasty claims, founded or not, will be operative and the 'seriousness' of the charges will prevail.

Meanwhile, Romney will go untouched [save the MormonISM zealots here at FR]......

People (I mean in general, not FR) are acting like they’ve discovered a new and exciting politician. Newt has been around for years, as we all know. I can’t help but see the ‘90s being played out again when his political opponents were able to define him in a very, very negative way. It would be a huge mistake to have Newt as the GOP nominee.

Newt is a disaster.

I don’t trust these PPP polls. But if Cain does get pulled down by all these lying presstitutes, Newt would be a lousy substitute.

We are long past the point where we can afford to vote for the least worst candidate.

Either Cain fends it off and continues to grow in stature, or it’s write-in time. And there’s only one candidate out there who could possibly bring it off. I think we all know who she is, although some Freepers would prefer it wasn’t so.

McCain II, but with more adultery and divorces.

Something like 40-50% of Americans hate him.

Yeah, that’s the guy.

I’d vote for him in November though.

What I think is that Republicans
1.HAVE TO get behind a legitimate candidate and do it QUICKLY
2. THAT candidate will either be CAIN, ROMNEY or GINGRICH.
3.The MSM has made it clear FOR TWO YEARS, through spin with varying degress of subtlety, that ROMNEY is their candidate.
4. The Left has ALSO made it clear that Romney is their candidate, for the seemingly contradictory reasons that
he’s the most “moderate” and also doesn’t offer enough of a
contrast to Obama to make much of a difference. This is a big gamble on their part, but you can see their reasoning.
5. NO ONE will win the nomination without the Tea Party vote, and so far Cain is the only one who’s captured that,
his “sexual scandals” notwithstanding.
6. Everyone must also recognize by now that the Left is trading on the “baggage” both Gingrich and Cain carry is
enough to render them “unelectable”. This fits perfectly into the ongoing objective of making Romney the nominee.
7. NOBODY seems to have learned the lessons of the last election , which was, regardless of defeats, a huge success for this vast new constituency known as the Tea Party.
Cain’s unprecedented showing so far is owing precisely to this constituency, even as it looks like his “baggage” has been engineered to make him drop in the polls.
8. A Romney victory in primaries will create as much chaos
(though strictly of a political sort) in the Body Politic
as Obama being elected to the Presidency.
9. I have NO substantial idea how Romney could win the primaries except through a careful courting of “Independents” and/or disgruntled Obama voters looking
for someone to put a new faxe on what will basically be a continuation of sorts of Obama’s policies. Obama himself has been thoroughly discredited.
10. Last but not least, everyone also recognizes that Gingrich as a debater is what’s needed to destroy Obama.
He is the ONLY one confident and well-equipped enough to do that. He’s also the ONLY one calling for a whole series of serious debates which are designed to do just htat.
He will prove to be the ANTI-Obama if he can pull it off:
answering all the pseudo-idealistic piffle that got Obama elected, with real-world policy expertise.

Well, Cain doesn’t seem to be dropping like a rock as the others did. I think there’s more substance with him. It’s definitely tightening though.
