Conventional wisdom is that if you don't vote, you can't complain. I have come to the conclusion that I disagree. By vote voting, you are in fact voting for none of the above. In the Virginia House, my race is between a liberal democrat and an establishment GOP puppet who has no accomplishments of his own and has never stood on his own two feet. The incumbant retired and the new candidate is a handoff ripe for more graft. In the Virginia senate, it is a liberal democrat against a restaurant owner that wants more toll roads. I simply can't vote for any of these people. Would it send a better message to cast a blank ballot or sit it out completely?
I am starting to wonder what I will do in 2012 the way things are going... It's a pity.
Write in someone’s name. Your own or ‘none of the above’.
If enough people feel the same way - maybe there will have to be a run-off.
There’s no random libertarian you can vote for? It’s a throwaway, but like someone else said, it at least lets them know you’re there.
Unless a race is decided by one vote, your vote is meaningless anyway. I’ve never cast a meaningful vote. I could have stayed home every single time and nothing would be different.

If you have to ask strangers, does it matter?
I would rather see people write in the name of a conservative, even if not eligible due to write-in laws of your state.
If you are trying to send a message, be clear what the message is. Otherwise, the powers in charge of the parties make a valid claim that other don't care, since they don't vote.
You would be amazed at how few people vote in these types of elections
You COULD influence the outcome if you go to the polls and try to convince people to viote for the same write in candidate

Back the lesser of 2 evils and work harder for CONSERVATIVE candidates earlier in the nominating stage, next time.

You could have done a write-in. It would only have been a footnote but you would have exercised a civic duty.
“Sitting it out completely” could be interpreted as being happy with the status quo. Besides, aren't there any other issues to vote on, local taxes or something?
I once voted (write in) for the local weather girl because I didn't like either of the candidates.

I have determined that I will not vote for anyone who is not a Christian and a righteous one at that. I would rather cast my vote for a small party Christian candidate who has no chance of winning than for a fraud who does.

I’m in Virginia and I will most certainly be voting.
Because we are a constitutional republic does not mean you are always going to have great choices. More often than not, a 2 party system like ours will result in 2 seriously flawed candidates. You can either vote or sit out and shut up since you did nothing to make a difference one way or the other. Stop crying because the choices aren’t satisfying enough for you.
At stake in the Virginia election is our Senate. If we control the Senate then McDonnell will be able to force through a more conservative agenda. Sitting out and whining is utterly stupid.
Get it OUT of you’re head that there are going to be a Reagan-like candidates on the ballot very often - if ever again in your lifetime. More often than not your choice is going to be the lesser of 2 evils. That’s just how 2 party systems work. Winning back the state Senate today is a very big deal for the future of Virginia. If you refuse to help make a difference, then please shut up till you get your act together and vote.
You must consider the bigger picture of legislative control. Yeah, the RINO candidate who might side with the RATs 8 times out of 10 makes you want to scream but s/he still carries an R by their name. Would his or her presence change the balance of power in their chamber? Make a difference in gathering a quorum?
Imagine if Jumpin' Jim Jeffords didn't change control of the US Senate, if there were enough R's in Texas or Wisconsin that the D's could all head out of dodge but a quorum could still be mustered. Imagine if control of the Supreme Court was at risk ...
Plenty of good reasons to choke the sandwich down, remembering that you like bread even if the filling leaves a bad taste in your mouth. (But if none of the above apply, M. Mouse is a perrenial write-in vote getter).
The time to fight the RINO battle is in the primary and there are greater concerns in the general. Mangia.
