Shockingly, I am Leaning Toward Newt
none | 11/5/11 | originalbuckeye

Having watched several of the debates, I am becoming convinced that Newt might be the only one that can beat Obama. He will destroy Obama in the Presidential debates. Can he overcome the destruction that Big Media rained down on him in the 90's?

What baggage? Whenever Newt comes up, every third poster rants about "baggage." What baggage?

I absolutely agree that Newt is the best in debates. He’s never been given the time that Perry and Romney have. I think his policies are right and what’s the big deal of having a photo with Pelosi? That doesn’t say anything to me at all. I believe he’s the real deal and up to the task. I still like Cain and I hate Romney.

I like him too. I would be fine with him or Cain actually. Newt is like a professor he would do well with independents and the youth I think. Most folks, other than us, do not know him as well. He definetely makes you listen to him. His wife is interesting though. :)

Why don’t you just go ahead and tell us how you really feel about Newt...we are big boys and girls....:))

Yeah, I am considering Newt as well.

I still hold out some hope for Perry, but his communication abilities are just so weak and he is too slow on his feet. I can’t take Herman Cain seriously at all. Romney is awful. Newt might end up being my candidate of last resort. All in all, this is a pretty poor field of candidates.

Wiki bio is your friend. Newt has lived in Virginia since 1999.

How many dying wife stories are you willing to hear? Oh, lets not forget his climate debate with Kerry when agreed with much of what Kerry was saying.

Newt is my #2 #NonRomney after Cain. I think Cain can defy all conventional wisdom and win it all.

Agree. Looking for the best in a less than excellent field.

“Newt will be no different.”

I respectfully disagree. We have been disgusted with McCain for many years....for almost everything he does. Much less with Newt....he has definitely made some errors....but not like McCain.

At this point, we are willing to give Gingrich a chance. We are CONVINCED that he will destroy Obama in any debate and we remember the good accomplishments of an earlier time.

Newt is a slimy weasel who is getting a pass by the media. No one is talking about his corruption. He is easier to beat down than Juan McCain.

The ‘divorcing the wife on her death bed’ wife is still alive. I would take a much more serious look at the Media accusations to see what was pure fabrication. But 3 wives is at least 1 too many. This wife does seem to be his match. May be too messy a problem to overcome?

I heard you the first time, and the second time...

Who do you propose that can
a: defeat Mittens, and
b: realistically defeat Zero? (which means getting a majority of independent voters in the general election)

McCain cant put two sentences together. He was the best we had at that time but a horrible candidate. I appreciate his service to our Country and will always respect him - but I am glad he is fading out of the political picture.

Newt is no McCain. He isn’t going to fold and although he strongly disagrees with some of the Conservative movement - many of what he is espousing is a MORE conservative position.

Yes, he may be part of the “establishment” but he is not a part of Karl Rove’s establishment - so that is good with me.

Sitting with Pelosi on the couch doesn’t mean he isn’t qualified to be President.

I’m not convinced that Newt would do better than Cain. He has been attacked more by the Right than the Left so far and the Left has lots of ammo to instill doubt/discontent about Newt. If Cain weathers and capitalizes on the current smear, he will come out even stronger as he is capable of learning how to best deal with what is being thrown at him. If he plays it right, Cain can win a moderate portion of the Black Left bloc and maybe even some of the racist White Left. No data or expertise to back me up, but I predict Cain wins it with 58% of the vote if he is the last man standing on our side.

They all could not wait for “the war hero to take on the kid” in the debates. We were all told how “great” McCain was going to be going up against 0.

I never heard that. I think you are having false memory problems. All I ever heard was what a rino McCain was. In any case Newt is far from McCain. He's been in private life for what--fifteen years? Half the electorate won't even know or care what he was savaged for in the early nineties, and the other half won't hold it against him if he runs against the Usurper.

Like the John Birch Society or not, it's hard to support Newt after hearing the facts:

“...Cain is the first choice. Newt would make a great VP, however.”

Newt mightmake a good advisor, but we need a younger individual as VP in order to prepare for the 2020 election.

Gingrich has NEVER gotten a pass from the Media. Right now they are not focusing on him because they don't think he is a contender. I want to see his weaknesses and his strengths. I don't trust Romney. I like Cain but don't think he has enough (none) political experience. I think Perry is smarmy. I like Bachmann and Santorum but they are both too weak. Paul is not an option.
