Might as well leave on top.

La Russa is a class act. And I say that still regretting that Texas couldn't pull it out. But they didn't earn it. Tony couldn't hand it to them and Nolan Ryan wouldn't feel right about taking a championship which they didn't earn.
If only Ron Washington had started Derek Holland in game 7, it might have been a different story.

I'm shocked, especially considering that he would have passed John McGraw for the #2 spot next season.
But he has had a hell of a career and is leaving on top. He deserves to enjoy retirement.

Here you go, John. Right up your alley.

What a great run!
Three pennants and two championships since 2004.
Tony sure drove a lot of us Cardinal fans crazy with his constant moves, and unusual ideas (like batting the pitcher in the 8th spot). But the results are impossible to dispute. No other manager has had the same success in the last 16 years.

Maybe they can offer Pujols player-manager, and have La Russa help in the front office.
