St. Louis Cardinals manager Tony La Russa is calling it a career.
La Russa, only days removed from winning the World Series, made the announcement during a Monday morning news conference, the Cardinals' web site said.

If you're referring to Derek Holland, he pitched two innings in Game 6, just two days after going more than 8 innings in Game 4. He also gave up a home run in Game 6 to Allen Craig, then got pulled after giving up a single to Molina. It was clear that Holland was not as effective in relief with short rest as he had been in Game 4.
It might have been wise to save Holland for Game 7 on short rest, but Washington was going all out to win in Game 6.
Maybe they can offer Pujols player-manager, and have La Russa help in the front office.
