Couple Lost in Apple Orchard Calls 911 [Massachusetts -- again]

There must be something in the water in Massachusetts this year.

For the second time in a month, police have responded to a 911 call from a couple stranded — and lost — on a farm outing. This time, the rescue appeal came from an apple orchard.

When Mark and Marcia Rosenthal of Boston went apple-picking on the afternoon of Oct. 22, they didn’t expect it to end with a rescue.

According to the farm’s owner, the two wandered too from their parked car at Honey Pot Orchard in Stow, and as night began to fall, they became frightened that they wouldn’t be able to find their way back. The Rosenthals called the Orchard’s main line, but when no one answered, they called 911.

This is totally pitiful.

How would you like to be their neighbors if the economy collapsed? They would survive about five minutes unless you took them in and put them in the crib with the baby.

I hate it when my prejudices are reinforced. Mark Rosenthal had been an on-air meteorologist for a Boston news station for many years, Martin-Sullivan noted.

Funniest part of the story :

“So my brother drove out in one of our buggies to pick them up, and the gentleman was being funny and said, “So how many rescues a year?” And my brother replied, ‘Well, through 85 years of business, none.”

I predict he was the longtime meteorologist on WCVB-TV 5 Boston. (And when I saw a report on this on Ch 25 I knew
it was him)

10/1/02:
>>A veteran MASSACHUSETTS TV meteorologist is looking for work this week. Mark Rosenthal started at WCVB (Channel 5) in Boston the year it signed on, 1972, as a high school intern, and joined the station for real in 1988, most recently doing weekends and filling in on weekdays. But when WCVB added Harvey Leonard, the longtime channel 7 fixture, to its staff over the summer (not long after hiring J.C. Monahan as an additional morning/fill-in talent), that left one weatherman too many at 5 TV Place, with Rosenthal the odd man out. No word yet on where he might land next....

LOL! I LOVE IT! The reason both couples calling 911 were in MA is that MA has the greatest concentration of rad libs who love the nanny state.

This is a great example of how govt. control takes away initiative and develops the Pavlovian response to all unexpected situations--call the govt.

I'm convinced that local TV news reporters, as a group, are the stupidest people on earth. Their education typically is in fake, useless degrees like "communications," are fairly good-looking and their jobs verify this extreme vanity in them, are willing to work for peanuts for the opportunity to be on TV.
