Is this some alien death ray?
My own eyes | 10/24/11 | Gary

I just saw something unusual in the night sky, and was wondering if anyone knows what this is/what caused it. This was observed at about 9:30 PM above the Ithaca, NY area. There were several long, wide areas of pale red light (perhaps something to do with light clouds??). They had a NW/SE orientation, and appeared to be drifting in an east to west direction. The sun had been down for about 3 hours, and there wasn't any moon. I've lived here for 45 years and never seen it before. It was quite pretty, but puzzling!

I took this in southern Michigan about an hour ago. The green glow is unusual.

Must have been a happy elf who pulled that pot o’ gold out from under the end of that rainbow!

Long armed elf, too.

Isn’t that the hole into which the DIMs, nobama, RINOs and other freaks have thrown the US economy???

I grew up in Ithaca and recall seeing the Aurora Borealis on only a few occasions when it was decidedly unspectacular. Assuming sunset was around 6 PM today, if you saw sunset-illuminated clouds at 9:30, they would have to be almost 900 miles high, which doesn’t make sense, so you must have been lucky enough to see a rare Aurora display.

Are contrails luminescent? Let me get my hat tighter. With the price of aluminum up, I’ll have to use the foil in the oven that catches the chicken drippings.

I remember back in 1991 while I was at MSU, I witnessed the most vivid displays ever. Pinks, greens and white. At on point, it looked like an angel spreading its wings. If I could paint it, I would. The image and experience is forever etched in my memory.

Good job! Camera batteries were dead here. I'll make sure that those are stocked during the year to come.

Darn.

I keep hoping to see that shot of downtown Briceville again.

Or maybe that shot of the road going to Rosedale.

Keep a sharp eye out for those Justices, Scarbros and Shannons! The only thing worse would be some Seibers, Wilsons or Wards from Stony Fork. LOL

Small world, ain’t it!

It’s all over the LSM to stay up until 4a to catch a couple hundred faint comets in a display, but they can’t tell us about an AB that seems like everybody could have seen?
