We saw Moneyball last weekend, and it was quite good. It’s worth checking out, if only for the performance of Jonah Hill.

Since this movie takes place in PR where I used to live, I might actually see it in the movie theater this weekend. I wonder if they will have scenes at the Caribe Hilton and the El San Juan hotels.

I have my own Puerto Rico Rum Diary story from when I was aged eight years old. Soon after we moved to Puerto Rico, my father began a collection of the various Puerto Rican rums, of which there were several at the time. Anyway, one of the rums was a very sweet banana rum. Quite tasty. So tasty, that I was sneaking sips of it on the side. One evening my father caught me sipping the rum on the sly. Oops! However, he calmly told me to fill a glass all the way to the top with the rum and drink it down and then he would tell me a story. Sooooo...I drink down all that banana rum and put the glass down. I was already quite tipsy but managed to ask him about the story.

With a bemused grin on his face, my father told me that stuff isn't good for little boys to drink.

The weird thing is that from that point on, liquor had no big mystery for me so later when my friends were boasting about getting drinks on the sly, I didn't see the big deal in it. Our liquor cabinet was always available but I rarely indulged. Maybe that rum incident kept me from ever becoming an alcoholic.
