Anita Perry puts faith first publicly
Houston Chronicle ^ | October 22, 2011 | Melissa Ludwig

Lady in waiting she is not.

Anita Perry, wife of Republican presidential hopeful and Texas Gov. Rick Perry, has taken a flying leap into the national spotlight in recent weeks, playing a more prominent role in her husband’s campaign than anyone can recall and speaking about her Christian faith in a way that resonates with evangelicals, but surprises old friends.

In nearly three decades as a political wife in Texas, Anita Perry earned a reputation for poise and privacy, not one to seek the limelight or talk much about religion. Her public statements last week that she pushed her husband into the presidential ring because she felt he was being called by God surprised Bill Miller, an Austin lobbyist who hired Anita Perry in the 1990s.

“I always viewed Anita as someone who took politics with a gigantic grain of salt,” Miller said. “She would rather go to a baseball game for her kid than an inaugural.”

But in this race, Anita Perry has stumped alongside her husband, anchoring some campaign events by herself and making headlines along the trail.

Perhaps a spiritual calling trumped any reservations she may have about the political game.

“When we encounter trouble or pain, we need to remember that in that moment, he has promised us something more powerful,” Richard said.

Anita Perry hit that theme in her South Carolina speech, saying a man approached her husband and told him, “God is testing you because he wants you to know when you are in the White House how you got there.”

You need to get out of FR.

Thanks for your opinion.

Don’t pay attention to johnwayne, alicewonders. I enjoy your post. I was considering Cain as my second choice in case Perry drops out but now I’m starting to think Gingrich
may do a better job.

Her husband should be content to remain merely the Thane of Cawdor.

Cheers!

alice, You are right that we have a great list of conservative candidates to choose from! While many believe Rick Perry is the most electable most conservative candidate, there are some who would want to see how Herman Cain would do in politics. However, we also have Newt Gingrich, Rick Santorum, Michele Bachmann - all great conservative Republicans, and even Ron Paul as a libertarian has some good points to throw into the pot (oops, no pun intended, lol).

The point is, this is one of the BEST group of Republican candidates we have had in ages - We have really turned the Republican Party more towards conservative principles than ever before, and the blessings the Good Lord has given to us this time around is evident in these conservatives we have to represent us and choose from.

With a list of conservatives like this to chose from, Obama just can’t even compete!

Now, let’s go get that most electable most conservative candidate nominated! Keep the faith, and it will happen!

Thank you for the positive post. I don’t know why we should have to suffer through attacks because of which conservative candidate we support. Can’t we just have a civil discussion and agree to disagree?

She’s a good woman, I like her a lot.

McGavin, There's a really nice picture of her at the link too, just in case you missed that. The gracious woman in her just shines through.

Anita’s “giant leap into politics”?

Oh please——for years, she has been a willing participant in the ways Ricky goes about financing his ambitions up the political ladder.

Rick uses the governor’s office as a personal cash machine. One campaign donor got his own regulatory agency——for a price.

Rick put Anita in charge of Texans Against Sexual Assault govt agency. Would you believe Anita got govt grants from the governor’s office? Can you say conflict of interest?

Money laundering and tax fraud come to mind.

News organs reported TASA was just another way created by Ricky to keep the campaign bucks flowing. You can bet TASA govt grants went to a select list of donors——and that TASA donors were enticed to give to the guv’s wife, knowing their issues would get special attention.

Here’s another campaign funding tale Rick-style——one of Rick’s big donors gave the Repub Gov’s Assoc a million dollars. The Repub Gov’s Assoc then gave Rick two checks @ $500,000 each. The money was not accounted for as per Texas law.

I guess she thinks this will help him in Iowa, since playing the evangelical card worked for Huckabee.

Rick put Anita in charge of Texans Against Sexual Assault govt agency.

Once again, this is reminiscent of P.J. O'Rourke:

On a bulletin board in the History and Political Science building I saw a poster for an organization called "Men Against Rape." I was going to attend a meeting. But I didn't quite trust this group. Something to do with the name, like "Rottweilers Against Mauling Toddlers" -- not that one disagrees with the sentiment, but what goes on in the rottweiler discussion group?

SPIKE: Ya know when ya run up behind a toddler real quick-like an' knock 'em down with your paw an' ya take da whole head in yer mouth an' shake it like a dish rag...

BRUNO: Yeah, yeah, yeah, let's not do that!

A weeping Anita says Ricky "attacked for his faith"-FAIL
Attacking Mittens for his illegals - FAIL
Going pheasant hunting - FAIL
Backing Trump on Obozo's birth certificate - FAIL

So now they're putting Anita out there again to talk about HER faith? Seriously?

“Rick Perry was in favor of the bailout program.”

That is not true. The letter by him and the other Governor was vague but did not support the bailout. At that time, Governor Perry was speaking out publicly against the bailout. He was very vocal about it towards Bush.
This is simply a lie that just keeps getting repeated but it is nevertheless not true.

Cain was for the bailout too.

Also not true is that Perry was Al Gore’s Campaign Manager.
Perry headed up the Texas Campaign Group.

At that time, Al Gore was pro-life and more conservative.
He later went far left and Perry like many Texans in the 80’s (including me) switched to the Republican Party.

I will not support Cain either because he is inexperienced, has no knowledge of foreign policy and his 999 plan will be a disaster for this country. His answer regarding Afghanistan, the right of return, the Iran nuke question and the Gitmo exchange for solder was proof that Cain would be better as CEO of Pizza Business or as Radio Talk Show Host.

You need to quit telling people to get out of FR just because they don’t agree with you.

If you don’t like what is being said here, maybe, you should stay off Perry Threads.

“FreeRepublic has an infestation problem”

I have been FReeping since 1998. People used to be free to post whatever ideas/opinions they wanted to without fear of being accused of being an insect. Whatever.

Rick Perry ran Al Gore’s campaign for Texas. I don’t like that. I guess I’m funny that way.

Rick Perry ran Al Gore’s campaign for Texas.

That is an outright lie, and I'm sure you've been corrected on that before. He DID NOT run Gore's campaign in Texas.

I don’t know why we should have to suffer through attacks because of which conservative candidate we support.

You are twisting your own claim. It had nothing to do with supporting a conservative candidate, but your statement that you will not vote for Herman Cain. Herman Cain is more conservative than Rick Perry.

Perry is a fraud and a closet RINO who is in politics to feed off the system. Politicians like him are the reason for the economic crisis.

I was not addressing you when I made that statement, and it was not related to the post I made when you attacked me for saying I would not support Cain because of the attitude of many of his supporters here on FR.

I stand by my statement - the outright meanness, non-factual smears and attacks on Perry's wife Anita - have sullied me to your candidate.

Just in case people forget what you posted to me, here it is again:

"Thanks for showing your true colors. You need to get out of FR. This place is for conservatives, not for those who support frauds. Perry is no conservative, he is an opportunist who was once Al Gore's campaign manager. He will embrace socialism if that furthers his political career. Rick Perry was in favor of the bailout program."

Your post exemplifies what I was talking about, full of lies and smears. Shame on you.
