Herman Cain's campaign paid his company to buy his books [zot]
CBS News ^ | Oct 18, 2011 | Lindsey Boerma

Herman Cain's case against pundits who claim he's running a book tour rather than a presidential campaign just got a bit more complicated.

Federal Election Commission records show that the former Godfather's Pizza executive paid more than $64,000 of his presidential campaign funds to his motivational speaking company, T.H.E. New Voice Inc., for copies of his own books, and for lodging, airfare, and resources, Bloomberg News reports.

Previous rulings by the FEC have allowed candidates to use their campaign funds to buy their own books, as long as the purchase is at market value and the money goes to charity rather than to personal profit. But Bill Allison, editorial director at the Washington, D.C.-based Sunlight Foundation, told Bloomberg that Cain's case should raise some eyebrows.

"All candidates publish books and they offer them as a premiums to donors, but most candidates aren't buying them from their own companies," Allison said. "It raises the question of his campaign contributions ending up in his own pocket."

Perry donated all the money from the sale of his book to a non-profit conservative organization.

He had another book about the Boy Scouts. He donated all the money from THAT book to the Boy Scouts.

The history here is of people trashing other people’s candidates. Who do you think posted all the anti-Perry articles, and the anti-Bachmann articles?

I just want Cain to come out and list in detail what laws he will actually push and support as President, and whether he would enforce them.

I have no doubt he is pro-life. I just don’t understand what he intends to do about it. He’s had multiple clarifications of his statement, and still hasn’t said “Of course, I will use the Presidency to educate America on the immorality of Abortion, to push for legislation to save the lives of children being aborted, and will, when that day comes, sign a bill banning all abortions.”

I am certain he will vote to end funding for abortions, because he has explicitly stated that. And I am sure he wants abortion to be illegal, because he explicitly stated that.

On the rest, he has been obscure. I just want him to be clear. If he comes out tomorrow and says the right thing finally, the issue will be dead as far as I’m concerned.

But given he has clarified his statement multiple times and still hasn’t said the right thing. Coupled with his refusal to sign the pro-life pledge because he thinks the President can’t advance legislation (not “pass” legislation, but “advance” it, meaning to use the power of the Presidency to get legislation passed), I do wonder what Cain thinks his job as President will be when it comes to ending abortion.

I do think it is absurd to attack other freepers for quoting news articles that quote Cain — it’s not their fault Cain didn’t express himself clearly. But I think it is silly to claim Cain is not pro-life.

Actually, Polybius hasn’t posted since last tuesday, and he wasn’t on this thread. I presume he got zotted sometime between then and not, but the last comments posted don’t give a good clue as to when or why.

bean counter did get zotted on this thread (suicide), but I don’t know why he asked for it.

I just don’t see it.”

Not really an answer to my question now was it?

As I said, no skin off my nose. The things that he has said in the debates alone are enough for me to conclude that he is unfit to be president.

Fair enough.

A two-fer? WOW! I can think of a few more (at least one on this thread though I haven’t been through it all). Haven’t been on FR all day and I return to this. WOW!

Someone else was questioning about gloating over FReepers being ZOTTED. This isn’t a gloat. It’s comeuppance. I have told these Perrybots they’re making a major error. Their in-your-face attitude and disrespect has not only affected their standing here but their candidate’s image. Maybe now they’ll understand just what they’ve done for themselves. NOT!

Agreed!!! More talent in his little finger than any of these young’n ‘stars’ today will ever have. The ‘Honeymooners’ was indeed wonderful but the characters he portrayed during his TV shows was pure brilliance. I feel his acting in the movie, The Hustler, (as Minnesota Fats), was his best movie work. Then their was his work in the music industry. Good God what an all around performer/entertainer!!!

As I say ...Gleason was the great one before Levin came around....and don't forget his cop role in Smoky and the Bandit...I don't think there is anything he couldn't do and be the best at it... Some day Alice POW right in the kisser....definately policially incorrect and wouldn't make it on TV today..

That line always cracked up my dad.

But his acting had no end. Comedy, drama, music, TV movies. I cannot thing of anyone today that had what he had when it comes to talent..The Hustler was quite an acting job also.

Come to think of it, they spent weeks trying to rip Reagan to shreds so Perry would look viable. We saw this coming...

Herman Cain believes that abortion is wrong, but it's not the government's business to stop it . . . John Kerry claimed the exact same thing.

Kerry has voted numerous times in favor of government funding of abortions. Kerry is a liar.

Jim Wright was forced to resign the Speakership for doing what Cain is doing with his book.

Wrong, wrong, wrong, wrong, wrong. The two could not be more different. Wright's book was bought by those seeking legislative favors from Wright. They put money into Wright's pocket, and Wright would pass the legislation they wanted. I don't know what they call that in Texas, but in the rest of America it's known as bribery, influence peddling, and racketeering.

Cain's 9-9-9 plan will not pass and cannot stand up to scrutiny. It will be opposed by anyone who is on a fixed income--

If that is really the case, then why do you still feel the need to lie about Cain?

Well, remember, the “great state” of Texas has bestowed three presidents upon this nation: two utter failures and one who was saved by his choice of a wise running mate.
