Interisting looks like a block of Alum. I wonder how it would work on something harder.

I wonder if an American shop over there invented that bit, and the ChiComs stole it? I would like to think that we might be smarter than they are... Oh Well.
How far we have fallen in manufacturing technology!

Wouldn't a square broach work just as well and take less time?

The toolpath diagram at 0:20 is really cool. It reminds me of a pattern created with a Spirograph.

Interesting but slow. I think I have made over 200 square 1/2” holes an hour with the broach.

same principle as a mortising bit, the square corners are cut with a broaching or chisel action. Pretty cool tho.

Shouldn’t a hole go all the way through the metal? It didn’t look like it did to me. It seems that going all the way through something and remaining square would present a problem for this bit.

I wonder if this wuld be hard on the bearings of the milling machine? Anyone know?
To: SWAMPSNIPER
I used to be a machinist, and I would re-sharpen drill bits during the course of my work. I eventually got pretty good at it, but while I was learning, I often produced drill bits that drilled weird, sort of triangular holes.
Unfortunately, I never found a marketable niche for weird, sort of triangular holes. :-)
