I had signed up on FR after my overnight subzero wait to meet Sarah for her booksigning (I still have 3 extra signed books). I did not view her possible candidacy as destiny or anything so dramatic, but I had sincerely hoped for it as Sarah is a Godly, wise and brave woman and seems to be so much the opposite of Obama. One of the things that truly impressed me was her advocacy for Israel. I wish Sarah and her family well.
The reason I had hoped for a Palin candidacy was that I had believed that she may be able to start to right the sinking ship that is America. But I fully accept that it will not be the case at least until 2016 (and very possibly never). And for those that likewise believed that Palin was meant to be our candidate, there was once a possibility that even Queen Esther would refuse to be the person that would be instrumental in rescuing Israel. Esther chose to participate, but her uncle Mordecai made it clear that if not Esther, then there would be someone else. My hope for a Palin candidacy was never about Sarah herself. It was because I believed she was someone who would courageously follow the truths of God as it relates to public life and policy. If she will not be a candidate, we must move on and accept that there are reasons for such outcomes.
One thing that is now readily apparent is the fallacy that some believed that Sarah would somehow be more effective at promoting conservative causes as a non-candidate. Sarah was very effective ONLY because of the possibility that she may become president. Without that possibility, she is not much different than someone like Condi Rice--at one time very relevant for America, and for now much less so. To see that Sarah was very instrumental in guiding the 2010 elections and thinking that she could wield such influence even after public knowledge that Sarah was not running -- well that's just very shortsighted.
It's not super important that we decide on a candidate right now. We knew Sarah well -- we may need to look wisely to see who is a genuine conservative that will win. It's important to me however, that we win in 2012 -- I'd even take a win with a less conservative candidate rather than have the alternative outcome.
This is a farewell to all those who have worked so hard for Sarah and America. Thanks Onyx, 2ndDiv, SE Ohio, Virginia Ridgerunner, and so many others. You guys were truly fantastic and tireless. Much admiration for your incredible and gargantuan effort that everyone here knows about. This is probably my last post regarding Sarah. May God forgive and bless America.
No offense, but what power is she wielding? No cheerleader has ever won a game for her team. She can rally the troops to a small extent, but that’s about it. The more impressive her speeches, the more she will dwarf the actual nominee. Blessings, Bob
I think the establishment tipped their hand to this fact when they went all out to get Christie to run. I think they know that Romney is having serious issues swaying the base and they thought they could get a replacement in before the filing deadlines. Someone that doesn’t have so much baggage. Luckily, Christie was smart enough to walk away.
Who is this “we”? You and the mouse in your pocket?

GOOD ONE Laz! HAW

She has had great influence in the Media
Your synopsis makes perfect sense.
Now I understand more about the whole Romney/Christie tie.
If you see this before you go to bed, I wanted to let you know that I have always liked Sarah Palin too. Many of you might have seen my support of Rick Perry. He’s my state’s governor, and I like him very much, just as citizens of Alaska liked what Sarah was doing for their state. But I have always like Sarah Palin, and I hope that I did not say anything on her threads that was ever over the top.
Just wanted you to know that even some of us “other folk” out there in FR are sad about the turn of events that happened as they did and that many of us still hope there is a place for Sarah Palin to be a bright star somehow.
Thanks for letting me share that with you all.
Completely accurate SatinDoll. Look at the political landscape as it is and as it has been in the last two (at the least) election cycles and you have a ???anybody could guess??? scenario. We are in a very unstable, uncertain environment.
We as in me, my wife, my two sons and two daughters in laws.
Not to mention several of my co-workers.
Get my drift?
Michele Bachmann would have been the leader of the field from the beginning if Palin had announced she wasn’t running, and Palin also hurt the other similar candidates. Bachmann’s mouth didn’t hurt her. Rick Perry hurt and Romney hurt her.
If Palin not announcing didn’t hurt the other candidates, then that would mean she didn’t have a large base of support. You are trying to have it both ways.
“What is wrong with you? You admit the media hates Sarah but you believe their polls? You are truly confused!”
You asked me for proof about Palin hurting the candidates, and I said the media wouldn’t want Palin to look like she had a lot of support.
I'm not sure it would have made much of a difference if Palin had announced earlier. Some Palin supporters have made the transition to other candidates quickly, while others have not. I doubt that equation would have changed, but even if it did, I doubt it would have had much effect on the race. We would still have the same players as we do right now.
Curl up in a fetal position - lest you have a complete meltdown. Your drama is pathetic.
I didn’t decide, because of Palin not announcing.
You’re delusional, she clearly refused to indicate one way or the other until the decision was done and made that very clear every time she was asked - about twice per week on average!

Let her go be a bright star.
Right now Rick Perry is in the arena.
Ditto!

We could end up with a free-for-all on the nominating convention floor nest year.
