The science journal Nature is making headlines this week with news of the largest hole in the ozone layer over the North Pole in history, rivaling the size of its well known Antarctic cousin. Researchers credit this "unprecedented Arctic ozone loss" to "unusually long-lasting cold conditions" in the stratosphere at a time when their colleagues are in turmoil over melting Arctic sea ice a few miles below, supposedly caused by man-made global warming. Of course, humans are also responsible for the chilly stratosphere, they say. With sky-is-falling overtones the article's authors warn, "We cannot at present predict when such severe Arctic ozone depletion may be matched or exceeded."
Gee, I wonder if this means that all those “gaping” scientists don’t understand the environment as much as they think they do??
It sounds as though they REALLY don’t understand the function of the ozone layer at all.

They understand well enough to ban all CFCs...
Ok, fine, can I have my aerosols and freon back? Thanks
Obama’s fault!!!
Here we go with the ozone hole thing again. I guess they might as well revive what worked last time. The polar bear and penguin thing is wearing kind of thin.
Watch for a new web site, “Sunscreen for Polar Bears”
Well, it’s one of two things. Either human action wasn’t the primary culprit before the CFC ban, or it would have been worse without it and we ought to turn the entire government over to environmental experts. I think I know which of the two the Greenies will be calling for.
Gaping o-holes’, Batman!
It’s not as big as the O-hole in Washington.
Therefore government money must be given to Christian Churches to research alternate ways for unicorns to sing. Money must also be given to conservative scientists to breed better unicorns.
Your TAX dollars at work if we were as delusional as democrats...
Time to get rid of it.
Maybe Ubama can give them a loan. That seems to be the kiss of death for any company.
I’m just thankful they did not find the hole over Crawford Texas. You know those ozone holes really follow the Bush family around.
Ozone is a free radical of oxygen. Regular oxygen is O2, Ozone is O3. To make ozone you subject regular oxygen to UV light. Let’s see, are there any stars near the Earth that emit light in the UV spectrum?
I deserve a governement grant, dammit!
That takes no understanding at all. They could have just as well banned the consumption of beans.
These GW pukes give scientists a really bad name.
Putting results before the prospect or data, solely for agenda driven speculation and baseless conclusions.
Give them time. First they have to ban all fossil fuels.
Imagine you own a company that manufactures the single best coolant ever known.
This coolant changes he world for the better, including refrigerating medicines to save lives in Africa, etc. etc.
This coolant makes your company $$$BILLIONS of dollars
Now... imagine the patent is about to expire, and once it does EVERYONE can make it ...
What do you do? do you sit back and watch a few billion dollars income go away?
Or do you invest a few million to start an environmental movement to ban your own product?
And the only thing that is allowed to replace your product is an inferior coolant that is highly corrosive and is significantly more harmful to “the environment”
