I have more to say, but for now:
I do not believe this (her ultimate decision) was something she went back and forth over constantly in the past few months or years. I believe that not only did she leave the governorship of Alaska with 2012 and the US presidency in mind--but she left McCain's concession stage the night Barack Obama was elected in '08, with 2012 and the US Presidency in her sights.
I believe there was careful strategy behind the timing of her book releases, their content, and the way they were written and the way they ended. There was *political* strategy behind choosing to go on Oprah to do her first interview following her resignation--and to meet with Barbara Walters shortly thereafter. I do not believe she chose to go on Conan O'Brien and Jay Leno's return to The Tonight Show episode just because she "loves" being a celebrity. I believe all of it was political and part of her efforts to appear before the masses unfiltered and real. AKA: she was campaigning.
I believe there was strategic considerations about her personal political future behind her decision to become a Fox commentator and her efforts to revamp her media image. Same goes for her decision to invite cameras into her home for "Sarah Palin's Alaska" and I'm sure she even saw the hidden political benefit of having Bristol Palin win the minds and hearts of the public on "Dancing With the Stars."
I believe she changed her foreign policy advisors early this year in light of her presidential aspirations. I believe she went to Israel, India, and Haiti (Sudan was cancelled) and Korea (which she is scheduled to visit next week) with the US presidency in mind.
I believe her decision to release "The Undefeated" in Iowa and key voting states had electoral considerations in mind. I believe every SarahPAC YouTube video screamed "will be running soon, watch out." Her bus tour, her facebook notes touting her record, and her retweets which linked to her most key supporters and supporting organizations like Conservatives4Palin and TammyBruce were intended to encourage site viewers to see her in the context of a potential candidacy.
I believe all her speeches in Iowa and New Hampshire in early September were serving as very BLATANT precursors to her running: touting her experience fighting crony capitalism in Alaska, talking about "HER plan" for the country, etc...etc...
I believe that up until even two weeks ago: she had the fire in her belly. She is a fierce competitor with unlimited energy.
I believe she is confident in her ability to beat Barack Obama and run a fantastic, history-making campaign that breaks all expectations and conventions.
EVEN TINA FEY parodied Palin's "2012 aspirations" on one of her final appearances on SNL the end of the last election cycle. All of Palin's most vociferous haters and denyers, were deep down, expecting Sarah Palin to run...
Which is why, I believe:
Her decision to not run was a very carefully thought out--but last minute decision she's made over the past two weeks at the MOST. I know the lives and safety of her children were of utmost consideration and that there were several recent issues that must have initiated severe worry.
But ultimately, I believe there is more to it that she won't ever say. There is so much that we don't know--about the inner workings of the GOP, for example, that we simply are not a part of and will never see. But I do believe there were things that happened or that she has learned of in these past few DAYS that ultimately led to her final breaking point decision...Something dramatic and sudden, and something more political in nature--than having to do with family.
That's just my guess.
Ultimately, I believe this was simply GOD's way of telling America: at this point, you're not deserving or worthy of a godly leader. You blew it.
That's what my next post will be about.
I pray it’s not a health issue, for her.
I read quite a few of those type posts last night. They blew my mind.
Don't explain, your friends don't need it and your enemies won't believe you anyways.
I’ve been feeling much the same way as you. SOMETHING happened that we may never know about, or maybe there may have been truth to the Glen Rice episode. I don’t know, but the whole thing is nauseating and depressing, and smells. I simply am not in a “rah rah” mood about any of the prospectives, and certainly not about Sarah right now. America’s decline will continue.
Right now I have to vent, but I may well disappear here for a bit. I think that I have little to contribute, and there is a war that must still be won without our finest general. I have no desire to bring everyone else down with me. Thanks, Bob
I believe Romney is terrible, Perry is a poor candidate and Cain isn't a very good alternative.
Good luck to us with those bad things that need attention.
Please do not ping me to anymore Palin news. Thank You.
To me she is a hypocrite.
Can’t disagree with any of it. I believed she could run and even win, but this last month proved to me that there were just too many (evil) forces at work aligned out there for the latter scenario to succeed. I still thought maybe at least she could get in and promote her issues, going all-out against that “permanent political class” that leeches off of government, and such. But even then, would her ‘message’ get out while she was enduring a 24-hour-a-day hate-fest from the lefty media, the entertainment industry, and more importantly, the GOP establishment which would be constantly backstabbing her? The very same filth that would be sliming her children on a daily basis? It would be a horrible, untenable position to be fighting from.
The whole country is pretty much upside-down. Up is down and down is up. Good is evil and evil is good. Obama running up the debt is considered ‘fiscally responsible’ by the media, while the tea-party position of halting deficit spending is deemed ‘fiscally irresponsible.’ Total insanity, coupled with a putrid culture that promotes vileness and condemns decency. It’s a poisonous, caustic environment right now, and it’s going to get worse and worse as the economy and the country continues to deteriorate.
Thus, I’m surprisingly content with Palin opting not to run at this moment (even though I doggedly admit waiting almost three years anxiously waiting for it to happen). I think it’s going to prove to be a wise move, and will be widely recognized as such in fairly short order. There’s no need for her to take on the suicidal role of ‘magnet’ for all the angst and intense hate that the media would direct right at her feet had she gotten in. There’s going to be a better and brighter moment for her, and I think she’s aware of this. It might arrive sooner than we even realize. Anyway, I still support her an unwaveringly 100%. Her decision did absolutely nothing whatsoever to alter this.
You are dead on. Her explanation of why she isn’t running sound the same to me as other elected officials who leave office saying they “Want to spend more time with my family”.
Or Christie staying out (no split of the RINO vote).
And were the phone calls from her law firm to the various states about deadlines a feint, or did she discover either that or another unexpected obstacle at the last minute...?
Cheers!
Honestly I can't understand this.
For [as] the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts.
Sarah is our North Star.
It is all pretty overwhwlming right now.
Thinking about it gives me indigestion and makes me feel very uneasy, especially after the first of the year.
I never have been pumped at the field. I intend to watch them for awhile.
I don’t know, whoever it is, if they win, they are going to be in for a miserable ride.
The mind boggles.
The only thing that changed near the end was that Palin knew the game was up and she would have to admit to her supporters that she wasn't going to run. After teasing it out for so long and generating such a fanatical following, Sarah knew it would be difficult to finally let her adherents down. By not running she also loses much of the media attention she could instantly generate and that is not fun for any politician.
That said, she will help a lot of conservatives raise money and compete in elections in the future. Her endorsement is already being sought by the remaining candidates. I expect her to play a big part in 2012 - particularly at the local and state level.
Please spare us.
CP...
She looked like heck on Greta over a week ago, like shot out of a cannon. Something about that didn't sit right with me, she looked worried. My gut feel somethin' going on we may or may not ever be privy, did they threaten her, her kids, or did she just finally had enough of them verbally and otherwise accosting her family. That wack-job at the bar in . LA was way over the line, can you imagine what it would have been like for her kids if she ran, even with SS protection. These evil B@$t@rd$ are ruthless.
We didn't like the Clinton's or Carter, but we never picked on the kids and if and when someone did they apologized...
If she wants to drift off into obscurity after what they did to her, it's o.k. with me, she deserves peace...
I agree with your position.
