I thought that the recreation of the scenery, the sets, the battles, the costuming, everything was set so magnificantly for portraying the Roman Empire era. Stunning actually.

We had wallpaper like that in the 70’s - in the den. Whenever we took acid, we go to den.

I always though Peter Parker was a little bit gay anyway, drove me crazy how wimpy the guy was when not in his spiderman digs. But to remake him as a half black half Mexican gay teen? Oh ya, that will sell well to all those young white pre-teens that buy these comic books.

The last film made Superman into an illegitimate father, what crappy things will they do this time? Man of Steel, Woman of Kleenex?

OK. So I am a really old fart. But I once got Action comics by mail. And if I remember my Superman history well (and I could be wrong), his earth mother made his cape and costume from his blanket in his rocket. The 'S' was a later adaptation when he realized he had super powers. So, if that is all the case, how does 'Dad' get the S on his costume?

Gladiator Battle ‘Germania’ reminded me of the Battle of Teutoberger Forrest. But the barbarians won that one, and drove Rome away from latter day Germany. Great movie. Almost as good as Braveheart. Almost.

    Oops. Posted too soon. :)
I really like Ridley Scott’s directing, and I had never seen Crowe in a movie before I saw Robin Hood. I thought he did a good job.

Crowe does best in very heroic roles like "Gladiator" and "Master Commander".
As a liberal, though, I believe he shuns such roles. Too bad. I would like to see him in much more stuff with classic Western heroism. He would be THE BEST A-LIST actor if he chose to do so.

With a bag over his head, it would be fine.

    >>> Jor El was his Supermans real pop, right? I get all that confused. There was Mon El and Kal El too
Don’t forget Lion El. He invented miniature locomotives on Krypton.
>>> When I first saw the movie, I thought they were getting a bit too dramatic having the emperor fight in the colosseum,
Before Gladiator, I learned of this Emperor in the film Fall of the Roman Empire. I made a point of acquiring a couple of the less expensive examples of his coinage as conversation pieces.

But wait, if you are Dr. Sivana, you should be more versed in Captain Marvel lore, correct?

Dr. Sivana, being the World's Wickedest Scientist, is versed in many things. His hatred for do-gooder Superheroes cannot be contained to one Earth. His contact with the Marvel universe is quite limited, however.

Well, you are both right. Superman gets the reset button hit for both cold and warm reboots over the years. His powers, the explanation for them, his attitude towards Earth, everything gets changed over the years, often of necessity unless you want to make him a period piece. In the early '70's, Galaxy Broadcasting buys out the Daily Planet. So what do they do with their star reporter? Yup, they make the klutzy, retiring, frequently disappearing Clark Kent into an anchor! If I were Lex Luther, I would rob Ft. Knox during the Metropolis News Hour.
