NYPD Warns Women Not to Wear Short Skirts Because They Could Get Raped

Don’t wear short skirts — you could get raped.

That’s essentially the advice the New York Police Department is giving young women in one Brooklyn neighborhood following a slew of unsolved sexual attacks in the past few months.

The warnings are being met with outrage, with residents saying police should be focusing on catching the suspects, not criticizing women for what they choose to wear.

One South Park Slope resident told the Wall Street Journal about an encounter she had with an NYPD officer this past week:

Rape is a crime that cries to the heavens for the death penalty.
You are correct about the reason why men rape. It is all about control. The men who do this are weak and cant get a woman any other way.
Rape, Murder and sexual abuse of a child are three crimes that should merit death.I would even go as far as the makers of child porn should see the chair.

My point is this: how short is TOO short? If you wear tea-length skirts, there are some that would find that “hussy” like. If you wear a skirt to your knee, there are the tea-length/ankle skirt wearing crowd that finds that “hussy” like. I went shopping with a friend of mine for her late teen daughters. Nice dresses/pricey even and none of them at the knee or below it. They were all mid-thigh. They looked unbelievably beautiful in them as well. When NYPD or anyone puts “blame” or “points a finger” at a person who was raped and blame their clothing then the only true “alternative” for “respectable” women is to wear a burkah. Cover themselves completely so that men can control their raping urges. Men who rape are rapists. True men don’t rape a woman because she showed an ankle, a calf or a thigh.

Yes, rapists are rapists. The police officer’s point is, they are looking for a target. One that catches their eye, and preferably one they think is easy-access.

No different than a rapist targeting an older woman IMHO. That is why I teach (will teach the youngest one) to be aware of her surroundings at all times and know how to fight. My daughter has taken Krav Maga... knowing fully well how to incapacitate someone. Incapacitate meaning brutally and not playing around, essentially fighting for your life. I do wish more women would learn self defense if they are in an area where they can’t legally carry firearms. (although I think people should be able to carry firearms everywhere)
