MLB playoff games Live thread. Texas, Tampa game currently on TBS, Tigers, Yankees starting are 8:30 tonight. National League games are tomorrow.
I miss Ernie Harwell, he was truly one of the greatest Tigers of all time and he never wore the uniform.
“He stood there like a house by the side of the road”
Looks like the Rangers have solved my dilemma of whom to root for in the playoffs.
Go Tigers!
The Rays will need to win 2 more games but that’s one less than the Rangers need.
I think the Tiger, Yankee game will be the one to watch.
No fight at all in the Rangers.....I predict the Rays will sweep.
It will certainly be interesting to see who loses to the Phillies in the World Series. The Rays and Tigers both seem to be good candidates right now.
LOL yeah I’ve been keeping an eye on the Phillies and they be tough.
Final 9 - 0 Rays, nice start
Go Rams.
They drew a tough NLDS opponent in the Cards though - I think it will go to 5 games. I think the NL will be extremely competitive, and suspect NY/Det and the ALCS will be good series as well.
We’re all behind our baseball team
Go Get ‘Em Tigers
World Series bound and pickin’ up steam
Go Get ‘Em Tigers
There’ll be joy in Tigertown
We’ll be singing th songs
When the Bengals bring the pennant
Home where it belongs
We’re all behind our baseball team
Go Get ‘Em
Detroit Tigers
Go Get ‘Em Tigers
As the commentators of this game were saying, the Tigers haven’t gotten the attention they deserve this year. Verlander is looking at a triple crown, Valverde has 49 saves in 49 tries, Cabrera already has the league batting title wrapped up. Basically the Tigers have a top 5 player at every position.
Ernie Harwell speaks for me and he was a great spokesman for Michigan.

92 years old and dying of cancer and you could hear the strength in his voice.
I actually think the Tigers will win the AL Pennant. They’re an excellent team.
Tigers have what the Rangers don’t.....an ace.
All you say is true. One line I recall from Ernie for a similar situation. “He was guilty of too much window shopping.”
As a Cleveland fan, I can say any glory the Tigers or Lions achieve is well deserved and good luck to their fans.
The voice of the turtle is heard again. Ecclesiastes, I think.
Ernie was the one autograph I rue not obtaining!
Yeah Michiganders my age are as familiar with Ernie Harwell’s voice as we are our own father’s.
I believe Harwell is the only broadcaster ever included in a trade for a player.
I’m in Toronto so it was only on rare occasions when I listened to Ernie but that was one time I must have been driving within range that I caught that. I was at the final game he called here in Toronto. But we couldn’t hear that broadcast of course. When it was noted by the stadium annoucer and scoreboards he got a standing ovation here. Toronto and Detroit once had a great rivalry but it got lost when the three division setup split the teams into separate divisions.
