In WWII we had a “victory garden” in Maryland. I remember my maiden aunt Vinnie telling my brother, “Bob, I don’t want you hurting those dear little bunnies.”
Several weeks later, when she had found that her “dear little bunnies” had eaten her planted beans off right down to the ground, I heard her say. “Bob, why don’t you shoot those “god-damn rabbits!”

The next week we picked oft the rabbits with .22 shorts (available during the war for people declared to be farmers) from our dormer bedroom window and feasted on Maryland fried rabbit.
Once, while skinning one, a large fuzzy fly grub was found under the skin which kind of put me off.
