“I got lobbied by a 31 year old young lady who had stage 4 cervical cancer. I spent a lot of time with her. She came by my office She talked to me about this program.”

Is this quote true? On the face of it, it's no more of a lie than Sarah Palin saying she put a state plane on ebay--she DID, but it didn't sell as a result of that.

The point in the earlier case was that it showed Palin's unconventional and clever way of dealing with the situation, not that ebay is a great place to sell and airplane. In this case, it seems Perry was showing that he was lobbied by this woman. If the quote above is factually true, I don't see that this is the end of the world--it's just politics. And these are politicians.

I’m sure all lobbyists continue to lobby politicians long after a bill becomes law.

He was lobbied on the issue by the young lady who was a cervical cancer victim just like he said but it was when the Tx Legislature was debating whether to overturn the Exec Order or not. She lobbied to Perry and the TX Legislature to keep the drug on the list (with an opt out).

“I got lobbied on this issue. I got lobbied by a 31 year old young lady who had stage 4 cervical cancer,” said Perry. “I spent a lot of time with her. She came by my office She talked to me about this program. I readily admitted we should have had an opt-in but I don’t know what part of opt out most parents don’t get and the fact is I erred on the side of life and I will always err on the side of life as a governor as a president of the United States.”

“I got lobbied on this issue,” Perry said. “I got lobbied by a 31 year old young lady who had stage 4 cervical cancer. I spent a lot of time with her. She came by my office She talked to me about this program.”

Perry, however, did not meet Burcham until after he had signed the executive order mandating the HPV vaccine.

Where does Perry say he met her before signing the EO? Am I missing that quote?

I call BS on ABC. There was plenty of lobbying after the EO, as the legislature was working to overturn it. Perry needs to fire his entire debate-prep team, though, and maybe try to emulate the awesome Hermanator.

Egads, can you people read? The charge is crony capitalism. He tried to defend himself by claiming he was lobbied by this woman! He never met with her until after the fact! IOW, it could not possibly have been her lobbying him as the reason he signed it...hence, THE LIE...

Whether he outright lied or just told a half-truth in an attempt to deceive, the point is the same. Rick Perry didn’t make the decision to issue this executive order on the basis of his conversation with this woman. The people who talked to him before he made the decision were other advisers including those with strong ties to Merck. His answer sounds wonderful as a sound byte but isn’t entirely honest. Instead of “Bush-lite,” I worry that Perry may become “Clinton-lite.”

“On January 3, 2008, the Iowa caucuses began. The final averaged results from Real Clear Politics showed Mike Huckabee at 30%, Romney at 27%, McCain and Thompson tied at 12%, Paul at 7%, and Giuliani at 6%.[7] Among those surveyed in Exit Polling data, 45% cited themselves as very conservative and voted for Huckabee 35% to Romney’s 23% and Thompson’s 22%. Among those who called themselves “somewhat conservative” (43%), Huckabee won 34% to Romney’s 27% and McCain’s 18%.[8]”

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Republican_Party_(United_States)_presidential_primaries,_2008#2007

Romney and Huckabee were battling it out for the top spot as late as January 2008 last time around, while McCain TIED for third.

My point is, anyone who’s saying “Perry’s over, Romney is the nominee” at this point must be enjoying sweet memories of when Huckabee was our nominee last time.

Unbelievable. I expect such lies from a democrat not our candidate.
