The Pac-12 appears to be working out the final details of a deal that would bring Texas, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State and Texas Tech to the conference, sources close to the situation told Hookem.com and the American-Statesman on Sunday morning.

The University gets to keep the Longhorn Network, but may have to kick some money to lesser teams in the Pac 16.
And Texas, OU, OSU, etc will get to keep the Aggies 22 million dollars for quitting the Big 12.
Win/Win!
Maybe so, maybe not.
If there is no Big 12 (take that, Baylor), there may be no exit penalty. And if the four schools mentioned choose to kill the Big 12, won’t they get to pay, too?

The Aggies left the Big 12 while the Big 12 still exists and the Aggies will have to pay the exit penalty.
Texas, OU, Tech and OSU will simply dissolve the Big 12 and take the money.

I would rather fly to a game in LA than drive to a game in College Station.
Actually I was quite happy with the Pacific Coast Conference.

And the PAC 12 covets the Longhorns and they bring in more money than any other college sports program in the country.
And the Pac 12 will add the DFW, HOU, AUS TV markets.

An excellent point! I live a few miles from Cal and Stanford. I’d get to see teams from the old Big 12, once in awhile. I’m from the midwest and not a Pac-10 fan.

And you do know, I would assume, that the negotiated exit fee was to be nowhere near the $22 mill you quoted.
Wonder how much of the Longhorn Network moola Texas loses, not to mention having to share revenues in the new conference.

For years, the University of Texas has had to kick money to the poorer schools in the Big 12 such as Kansas, Baylor, Iowa State and Texas A&M and I am sure they will now have to kick cash to Pac 16 schools.
This whole thing seems a bit like Socialism.
Texas is the most successful school and has to kick money to other Big 12 schools.
To earn a little bit more money for themselves the University creates the Longhorn Network in order to have some cash that will not have to share with those poorer schools and they Aggies, seeing that they are going to be cut off from the largess of Texas quits the Big 12.
I heard Texas tried to get into the ACC but the ACC would not budge on revenue sharing. Texas wants to keep its money AND be in a “super conference”. I wonder which conference will blink first.
I have difficulty worrying about the fairness of UT’s having to kick money to less affluent schools when UT receives the $8.8 billion Texas PUF and other Texas universities do not (except A&M).
Put a fork in the Big 12, it’s done.
