NEW YORK -- In Tiffany Spaulding's 12 years in the pharmaceutical industry, she has worked for three companies, two of which no longer exist, and relocated to four states.
Now 39 and living in Brookfield, Conn., she hasn't had a promotion in five years and says she sees no chance to advance, stuck behind a wall of baby boomers. She would quit and turn her hobby of jewelry design into a business, she says, if not for the home and school loans that eat up half her salary.
Spaulding, according to a new report, is a typical member of the relatively small group called Generation X, 46 million Americans born between 1965 and 1978: They're ambitious, squeezed by debt and frustrated by people who aren't retiring on schedule. More than a third hope to leave their jobs in three years, a survey of more than 1,100 members of Generation X by the Center for Work-Life Policy found.
“I” took from both parents and children????? Please explain. I’ve been pretty self sufficient my whole life, dumbo....and I say that reluctantly, but you must not be yourself right now.
Oh, why thank you!
Too many kids want degrees to get a high salary, without realizing just how much they need to fill out their resume with as much experience as possible in thir new field. The degree is good, but it’s nothing compared to all the experience that should be gained as much as possible so when they graduate, they have the experience to justify the request for a large salary.
the things taht people spend on college, could easily be spent on getting a certificate. Why go to college to learn Phlebotomy if I could go and get certified within (in an accelerated program) a few weeks to a month? Less money spent, I have a solid credential, and also, I could get a solid job and no debt. Pell grants cover the majority of these things and then you’re debt free, a solid credential on the resume, and also then, a debt free start. Pity your niece didn’t tkae into consideration getting a certificate in teaching instead of taking five years to get a degree.
There are a lot of middle class/lower middle class students who get ‘rich kid’ degrees and then wonder why they don’t get the ‘rich kid’ jobs. They forget that the ‘rich kids’ have connections that will get them a posh job and income.
It doesn’t work that way for non-trustafarians and having ot make your own way in life isn’t shameful at all, it’s good for you and good for self respect. It isn’t even about work anymore and more about getting a fat paycheck to enjoy life on, not about putting in an honest day’s work and then coming home to a snug home that you own.
Both of my parents were dead before I reached 40. I work hard for everything I have and you jack-wagons that come in here and blame me are nothing more than parasites. Get bent
That's just plain silly.
The percentage of "hippies" was more like .03%. They were just louder than the soldiers and other honorable Americans. The left loved 'em, and put them in front of every TV camera they could.
In my California high school, out of about 1500 students, we had TWO "hippies." At our county's junior college, there may have been 20.
So if you were to hire a pizza delivery person that told you how to run your company...that would be o.k.?
I saw a tv special a while back about seminars to teach how to “deal” with the younger generation coming to the work place. You know, call their parents and praise them, clap when they do the job they are hired to do...etc.
When someone comes to work for a company..it is not theirs to run on the second day of employment. When they prove their value...their input will be appreciated.
No it isn’t.
My job is to manage a vital department in a company. I don’t need a bunch of idiots telling me about their experience when they have none and should just get to work doing what they were told.
I work in the real world where there are real ramifications for actions. Real legal ramifications that obviously you don’t understand and they have no clue of.
Also I stay busy pointing out the engineering mistakes little know nothings make that could get people killed. If they would just shut the hell up and focus maybe they wouldn’t make so many mistakes.
I can guess why you would hire a Chinese exchange student but it sure as hell wouldn’t be to replace me as I am not a stick bundler.
Finally, I wouldn’t work for the pizza delivery manager anyway. Your bosses company doesn’t gross enough to pay me.
How much debt do I have little cub
For an employee of a company you sure act like you own it... typical of your generation.
That brush is wearing thin. Maybe a generation after us should try a new coat. If they have the ability of course
No, you made a touchdown!

AMEN to supporting our Gen-Xers!
PPPhhhhhhttttt
You’re associating with the wrong “boomers.”
I choose to leave my comments open without pronunciation. Give me a pass
