While other Republican Candidates dither about Social Security, Cong. Thad McCotter is going to do something about it.
McCotter is the guy that gave that really, REALLY boring speech in Iowa. And one of two candidates running that can beat Obama. Unfortunately due to the lack of “sizzle” his campaign is destined for nowhere.
Intriguing analysis. And who is the other candidate, pray tell?
Rick Perry. I can see the debate now, “Gov. PErry why should you be elected President?”
Perry - Compare this Presidents’ economy with mine....that’s why.

Personally I like Thad McCotter and actually understand his pro union stance as being a product of his district. Unfortunately being a product of his district is what will hurt him most.
Okay, I agree with that. As for McCotter; I never heard of the guy until recently. A congressman with a near anonymous backstory is going to be a hard sell, IMO.
So anyone got the details of this plan?

It was described by Peter J. Ferrara, who helped craft the legislation, as being “the largest reduction in government spending in the history of the world”, however details have not been released.
His vote for the auto bailout was not just a product of his “district”. McCotter cited the fact stated by Moody’s that a GM/Chrysler collapse would have put a $300 biilion hit on the Social Safety Net. In addition, from a National Security standpoint, does anyone think it would be prudent to allow our auto manufacturing capablities to disappear? Besides, what is wrong with a Conservative Republican candidate who might actually attract some “Reagan Democrats” .
Great ideas without great charisma and reasonable appearance is wonderful for the House and Senate, but is a non-starter for the top slot.
The Texas economy was going strong long before Rick Perry. In the Carter years Texans referred to all the Michigan residents that relocated there as “black plates.” Michigan had black license plates at the time.
Having a successful economy at Texas is like having a winning season at Alabama. The coach is almost irrelevant.
Despite being pretty moderate I like McCotter personally but I don’t think his true intent is to win the presidency. I think he’s building name recognition and contacts for a future run against Carl Levin. (Pete Hoekstra is already running against Stabenow)
McCotter is as good as it gets in his district. Its either him or a Dingell clone.
Isn't that the point? I'm no big Perry fan, but what he keeps saying is get government out of the way and watch the market work.
And what does the ‘Save the Social Security Act’ propose?
And a few weeks back, he had a big UNION PROTEST outside his Michigan office because of his stance on reducing the Federal workforce by 20 percent. You can find more UNION articles critical of McCotter than supporting him. More importantly, votes that support his constituency disquailify him from being heard and being a viable candidate for the nomination? 100 % pro life rating, an “A” rating from the NRA, numerous awards from the American Conservative Union, detailed policy plans on bank re-structuring, Communist China, and now Social Security. This man deserves and needs to be heard. Honestly, is anyone happy with this field of candidates?
And as McCotter himself pointed out, the two “top” Republican candidates are former Democrats. I suppose that disqualifies them.
You obviously haven’t watched McCotter much. I agree that he’s not “charismatic” but he is extremely media savvy, never lets interviewers pose their questions with built in liberal assumptions and is best equipped to articulate the Conservative message. T-Mac is self depricating, has a bitingly sharp wit, has written an intellectually stimulating book, SEIZE FREEDOM, plays lead guitar in a few rock bands, and would destroy the current President in a debate on policy. It would be impossible for the media to portray him as the “dumb Republican”, which they do to just about everyone else, or as a nerd. He rocks it pretty good. IMO, the American people got burned once on voting for a “packaged” candidate. let McCotter debate and let the chips fall where they may.
You have to admit, McCotter introducing this Social Security Plan is going to make for some uncomfortable moments at the next debate. How do you ask a candidate about the plan? “Cong. Thad McCotter is the only candidate who is running for the nomination to introduce a plan to save Social Security, but we didn’t think he was important enough to be here. What do you think of his plan?” Or, if you’re the media, do you just ignore it, like they are ignoring him?
