While many people, especially in the LBGT community, have lauded the addition of Chaz Bono to the "Dancing with the Stars" cast, others are concerned, disappointed, and just plain angry and they went to the shows online message board to let producers know how they feel.
One of the main concerns was that transgendered contestants will be confusing to children and inappropriate for a family program.
I personally do not mind watching Chaz, wrote Callisandria2. The problem is that I watch this show with my 10 year old daughter. I am sure the show will talk about Chaz and the controversy, and I am not ready to explain all of that to her yet. We just barely covered the birds and the bees. We always watch one show together, in the fall it's DWTS, and in the spring it's American Idol. Looks like we will try X-factor instead this season.
Other fans were more blunt.
Manufactured genitalia is not the conversation I want to have with my children, said trident606.
Some fans had moral issues regarding Chaz Bonos gender reassignment and refused to accept Bonos male status.
I have never missed a season, and I won't miss this season, sandimac65 said. That being said, when Chaz Bono is on I will not watch his/her segment. All these people who think it's a choice - if you don't like being the sex you're born, just go change to the sex you wanna be...oh no! Sorry! As the old commercial used to say, 'It's not nice to mess with Mother Nature!' If God had meant for her to be a him, that's what she would have been born.
Jan Pizzolato shared that sentiment.
I cannot watch this season. I am disappointed in the cast, she posted. Chaz Bono was born a girl. What she/he has done is her/his decision to change God's plan for her. It makes me sad to think that what was once valued as morals has so deteriorated as people have gotten so oblivious to what is right and wrong.
However, other fans came to Bonos defense.
It didn't take long for ignorance and bigotry to rear its ugly head. Calling Chaz Bono a 'he/she' or 'him/her' or 'freak of nature'. now THAT is disgusting, cathieil said.
What he is doing requires a ton of courage and I wish him well on both the show and in life, she added.
I am disappointed in all the judgment about a person none of you even know," dstaner wrote. "Chaz is just trying to live his life as all of us are. You aren't going to watch the show because he is on it. Get a life. As for explaining to your kids....please. come up with a better excuse than that. Tell your kids his mother is Cher ( who is very famous). Until you have walked in his shoes you have no right to judge. What would Jesus do? You are mostly all a bunch of hypocrites. Clean up your own backyard.
Many posters were less concerned with Bonos gender status than they were with the fact that he is not really a star in the first place.
The name of the program is Dancing With the Stars. Since when is Chaz a star? said an anonymous poster. Okay, he starred in his own documentary about his transition to male, but other than that what has he done with his life? Stardom? Not hardly. I think I'll pass on watching this season. Maybe they'll get some stars next season.
OMG. I was so looking forward to the new season of DWTS. But what were they thinking when they chose this cast? said sassyred55. I know why they chose Chaz.... Not because he is a Star, But for the reaction that most of us fans are feeling. His mother is the Star. This is the worst cast so far!
Another fan chose not to single out any one cast member none of them were appealing enough.
Where are the promised A-List celebs? the fan wrote.
With apologies to Kathy Griffin (who would have been a great contestant) the show should be titled, Dancing With The D-List.
Not when it comes to body weight.

Yes.
oy vey!
Okay, suppose a Furry goes on the show and wants to be called a dog. Or someone says “I’m Napoleon”.
I probably would have if I had known about it, like I said I do not watch the show.
Really? I meet Sonny on many occasions and he talked about being a Catholic. I cannot recall him ever saying he was into scientology.
One wonders how much abuse, addiction, emotional distress, and mental illness it took to cause such a grotesque transformation. How can anyone look at what happened to that woman and call it “good”?
My understanding is that this unfortunate person Chaz Bono still has her original genitalia. Of course she still has her original chromosomes.
So, really, in what scientific way is she a man?
I think they will lose a lot of viewers over this.
They have no respect for their audience, so typical of how all the elites look down on ordinary people. They are always trying to “improve” and “englighten” us.
That said, I’ll be shocked if Chaz makes it very far. Neither Sonny nor Cher was ever much of a dancer.
SeekandFind you really lived up to your name with those pictures. Who turns themself from a pretty girl into an ugly guy?
How tragic.
This person must be so very, very, deeply unhappy. I really feel bad for Chaz. I also feel very bad for Cher. If it was me I’d have a lot of guilt.
Chastity?!? What a stupid name for a baby.”
Isn’t it weird, I thought that too. And I was just a little kid, well maybe I was about 10. I just thought here is a woman who is a major sex symbol (remember that phrase?) and she names her daughter Chastity. However, Cher & Sonny Bono were a married couple at the time.
I too thought she was rather doomed. Even though I thought it was silly I thought that.
And I like that name “Chastity”. I like all those types names: Prudence, Honor, Hope. There’s a name for those names, but I forget what it is, “quality” names, that’s not it, but something like that.
And I can’t believe I’ve made 3 posts to the Chaz Bono DWTS thread. I must be the real sicko here!
Actually, either of those would be more entertaining, and less awkward.
Her features ARE quite fine - lovely teeth and smile and the blond hair looks very becoming.
Camille Paglia has a short video that you can google in which she discusses how awful transexualism is(Susan Sontag despised it as well)and frets about poor Chastity Bono’s mental health.
It detailed the concentrated, rigorous, almost brutal physical training and rehearsing which transpires to whip the non-professional contestant into shape for the show.
With her weight and her history of surgery accompanied by regimes of potent drugs needed to enable her to be a faux male, Bono (and the network) are courting grave danger to her health and her very life.
This cynical, cruel and amoral exploitation of a human life by all involved for the purpose of ratings, money and greed is a compelling reason not to watch.
It's important to let the network know of your reason for not watching the show as it does no good to merely keep your TV dark.
(I've never watched the show, anyhow, but I WILL write).

I’ve never watched the show, other than one clip on youtube and the occasional commercial. It’s simply not the kind of thing that interests me, and I also find the costumes and style of dancing to be too revealing and suggestive. For those reasons, I am not surprised that Chaz Bono was chosen as a participant.
My parents loved ballroom dancing. They even taught for awhile. The costumes have changed drastically. And it HAS become “dirty dancing” ballroom style. When I still had TV, I would watch competitions on PBS. It was the dancing without the silliness but still had “Ho” fashions. lol
