What a tragic story. It is such a tragedy when a person dies so young.
One minute the 21 year old student is thinking about getting to class on time. The next minute he is facing his Creator.
May God have mercy on his soul.

I don’t think that’s how you’re supposed to do that.

Anytime rescuers are doing a lift they need to have cribbing blocks and wedges to support the vehicle in case something fails or shifts. Done properly, the vehicle would only have dropped a few inches. Chocks would only have kept the vehicle from rolling forward or back.
The fact that he was under the car in the first place was not a good sign, but it looked like the car bounced indicating nothing was supporting the vehicle's weight other than the jack that failed.
My guess is somebody got excited and started the lift before anyone was ready to set the cribbing.

Not to drag this off topic too much, but the writer does not make it clear whether the young man ran into the car or was hit by the driver of the vehicle.
I just sent this article to a friend who is an EMS dispatcher for a large urban city in the south. I’m sure there are many lessons to be learned from this.

My Father was a Car Mechanic. He always said you never, ever use a Jack without having a ramp or blocks.
Prayers for the young man and his Family. What a terrible shame.
