Friend works in Madison just reported an abnormally low flying plane. Frontier. Anyone in the area?

Can’t find anything official. But the folks on the ground are adamant about what they saw.

Maybe a FReeper (not me) can call Frontier’s PR office and get a statement??

Classic. Sorry, have to pull because of a Gary Larson copyright complaint.

I think I found it. It was Southwest arriving or departing (more likely arriving) between 11:45 AM and 12:00 - the only flight I can see puts the loop in the right pattern, but too far south for me to have seen it (IIRC, it was approx 11:40 to 11:45 AM - my lunch receipt after about a 5 minute walk and short wait was 11:51). Also, this thing was low enough for me to see good details (body seams, etc.), no way it was at 14,000 MSL (about 9,000 feet above me, since I'm at 5,000 or so MSL in ABQ). This thing was way close.

This is the only SW flight I found that fits, but I'm too far north (by about 4 miles) to have seen it on the loop depicted. The loop is right for the direction, but if you look at the aviation sectional map, there is a symbol that looks like an M with two dots in it north of the airport, that's about where I'd be on the map. I was looking at the underside of this bird as it went over banking in a loop.

Just too bad that the initial “flaming” probably makes folks skittish about sharing.

Yes, that's what happens, unfortunately. Who wants to be mocked with "I am gonna go take a shower" posts, and the predictable "this is hugh", "series", and whatever else they say in such tired, uncreative ways? I am embarrassed for them.

Thank you for posting this and taking the heat. I am very curious to hear what the passengers have to say about this flight!

A correction. By the map I’m more likely 2 to 2.5 miles north of that loop, but the timeline, distance and altitude don’t mesh - 14,000 (9,000 above me) and two miles south wouldn’t let me see the details I did.

I personally don’t think the “this is hugh and series” or “hopping in the shower” posts are “flames.” It’s the ones that have the “oh, brother, people will beleive anything” or “why is this breaking news,” tone that get me a little bothered. Especially before the report can be confirmed or dispelled. To each his own, I suppose.

Must have been some sight

It was. I live under a flight path, and the planes flying there are usually a normal pattern (altitude is usually around 18,000 to 20,000 feet at that point - that's MSL. Where I live is at about 5,800 feet MSL, so they're about 12,000 to 14,000 feet above me) flying north to south and descending for landing - often they are less than a quarter mile east of me. Those aircraft certainly look smaller than what I saw this morning. I can make out the type and color schemes, but not details on the planes flying over my house like what I saw this AM at work.
