Ok, I gotta admit, this really took me by surprise. I really didn't just fall of the turnip truck and know all too well that bigotry, stupidity and rank ignorance not only still exist in 21st century USA, but fester in every state of the union.
But the reaction that ABC got when it announced that Chaz Bono would be among the celebrities on the new "Dancing With the Stars" season had my jaw dropping to the floor.
Homophobia itself is ugly and uninformed, of course, but those who spew anti-gay epithets often do so because they believe sexual orientation is a "choice" and, as such, some kind of mental abberation, despite what people like, oh I don't know, doctors and pyschiatrists have said repeatedly for decades.
But just looking at some of the comments from "DWTS" fans on the show's ABC page is nothing short of a reminder of how blindly ignorant so many people remain in this country.
Somehow, there is no awareness at all of the physiological facts of transexualism, only a stunningly uneducated belief that Chaz Bono, by transforming from Chastity to Chaz, is somehow committing "sin."

But I'm guessing Chaz won't dance well and the judges (even Bruno) will be forced to give low marks. If Chaz is in the bottom three, then it is a pure popularity contest as to which of the three goes home.
People who do not want DWTS to be a freak show will vote for one of the other two bad dancers. If the other bad dancers are pumped up, Chaz's support will be insufficient.
Chaz won't be the first to go, but will be gone by the fourth elimination.

Correct. The "addadicktomy" procedure is extremely rare in these women because it's so complicated, expensive, and risky. Most just have their breasts cut off and try to grow facial hair. They never pull it off even remotely.
A favorite restaurant in my town has one of these freaks working as a server. I avoid her and try to go to another restaurant in the chain when possible. She is unkempt, pudgy, slovenly, and with poor hygiene. I think these confused women stereotype men as having all these traits and try to emulate them as much as possible.
And the thing about this season is that when I said I think it could be an entertaining trainwreck, Chaz really wasn’t the first person I had in mind. Ron Artest, David Arquette and Nancy Grace were. And Ryan O’Neal had he gone through with it. Carson Kressley is such a twinkie you could deep-fry him and serve him at the fair, but he seems relatively sane.

Wrong. In several recent stories, Chaz has herself stated that the "transformation" was from the navel up. Everything below is still intact. She just had her visible parts (breasts) altered to complete the illusion, along with pumping loads of unnatural, unhealthy hormones into her body.
Actually that can be a pretty good look.
It’ll be interesting to see what this does to the ratings. I think a lot of people will refrain from watching because of “Chaz,” but others will tune in just out of morbid curiosity. I predict that the show will treat “Chaz” with the utmost respect...calling it “he” and “him” and pairing it with a female dance partner, acting as though it is all quite normal. Due to political correctness, “Chaz” will probably do real well in the competition, but if he/she/it doesn’t, of course, the screams of homophobia will echo in the hills for a thousand years.
In what definition of the word is Chaz a star?
Chaz isn't even a D-list "star".
Has Chaz ever done anything of note on a stage, or in front of a camera or microphone?

Seriously, Chaz will be on a long, long time. In fact, I wouldn’t be surprised if he/she didn’t win.
Do you really think that there won’t be a huge call-in campaign by every pro-gay group in the world? Homosexuals and lesbians will be buying Pay as you Go phones JUST to call in. Not even counting the internet.
Mark my words.
Looking at "Chaz"'s pics, its looks are a sin.
Chaz is a bad dancer. A horrifically bad dancer. Like the old Chris Farley Olympic skater routine.
And Chaz sails on through. Perhaps winning, with a dance that others might have managed in week 3.
It would kill the show entirely.
I'm hoping that Chaz is really bad and that Chaz wins.

This is not “Dancing With The Stars.” Nope. It should be called “Dancing With The Borderline E-List Stars.”
Every time I’ve watched the show, it is choc a block with people I’ve never heard of.
Chaz Bono - a cheap trick to get numbers. As for Chaz, he ain’t no star. If he’s a star, I’m Captain Cook.
Nancy Grace looks more like an owl than a pig.

I’m with you. I think shock value is one of the main themes TV producers are concerned with second to ratings.
I notice there are a lot of homosexuals & themes on TV these days - shoving their values (or lack of) down our throats. I’ll not be watching this season and if they continue the program will be on death watch.

What if its just kind of creepy?
Whoever gets eliminated is decided by call-in votes combine with the judges scores. Until the whole issue with Bristol, I’m pretty sure that they didn’t monkey around with the votes. I believe that the votes were monkeyed with to give Bristol third place, mainly because she and people at ABC were getting death threats and things of that nature.
In the privacy of their own homes, I don’t think that people will give a rat’s butt about political correctness. I will say though that Carrie Ann Inaba will probably burst into tears after Chaz’s dance and talk about he brave he/she is.
