Foreigner on Korean bus verbally abuses elderly couple--all over a misunderstanding

Description from here: http://www.rjkoehler.com/2011/08/29/to-foreigners-in-korea-please-learn-a-little-korean/

"A video is circulating on the Korean Internet of a black gentleman yelling at and threatening an elderly Korean couple. His violent behavior was the result of him misunderstanding the elderly man’s comment to him. The elderly man reportedly said “니가 여기 앉아” (a sign of consideration) ("You can sit here" = Niga Yuh gi anja"), but not knowing Korean, the man in question interpreted “니가” as the N-word which led to his violent outburst. [...] Apparently our culprit learned “개새끼야” but couldn’t be bothered to learn simple pronouns. Definitely North American, but if his hair is any indication he’s definitely not a soldier." Thank goodness for that.

Update: Another account I found holds that "as far as I know, the old korean man just told him to keep it down because he was talking so loud on the phone. It infuriated the black man, and then started swearing. Later, the old korean man said "니가(nigga)" which in korean means "you," and the black man who doesn't speak Korean thought he was insulting him and started beating him up."

Of course you should beat some up the minute you’re offended. Right?

The South Korean authorities should take the black gentleman and stap a parachute to him and drop him about thirty miles north of the DMZ. Then the black gentleman could be an a$$hole in North Korea and never be heard from again.

Korea is racist because the black guy didn't understand the Korean words and thought he was being insulted. Because the Black guy is ignorant, the whole Korean language and everyone who speaks it are racists.

“Naega” simply means “you”, nothing more.

Same thing in Wash DC about 10 years ago —a city bureaucrat used the word “niggardly” (stingy) in completely even and public tones when describing a proposed budget as stingy.

Was he fired? Yes.

First he asked them to use some common sense instead of emotion, and then he fell back on the group-rights thang, i.e. that he was gay (which apparently he was).

But they still fired him.

Being BlackAndOffended trumps reality? Well, yes.

A meme has gradually been accepted in the American media that if someone uses “the n word” in the hearing of a dark-skinned American, he is fully justified in any and all response. Up to and including mass murder.

This is very odd, as there is no other word that “justifies” such extreme reaction.

No, the hell he is not.

This is what PEOPLE DO.

I sometimes wonder if animals insult each other by saying they are behaving like people.

Seriously.

Who was that guy who, a number of years ago, was speaking to a group and used the word “niggardly”.

Some ignorant Blacks called him a racist for using this word which means, being stingy or miserly.

black gentleman yelling at and threatening

Oh, when it said "American"...I thought...

He might be a US citizen, but he's no gentleman, and very likely an anti-American.

I sure hope that MFer is eating his food through a tube before the week is out. Judging from the hair and demeanor he definitely is not military, and probably not a teacher (Koreans would not hire a black dude). I lived there 6 years, and can’t think of why such ghetto trash would even be in Korea. I would not cry if he were buried there.

Koreans, like all Asians, love American sports, so possibly this guy was in Korea with an American team of some kind, or possibly he was with a band (because Asians also love rap).

Part of the reason is the word is simply the southern pronunciation of “Negro.” As a white southern thing it is totally anathema because white southerners are anathema. The problem with the words is the attitudes of the people who speak. That is why blackafricannegro Americans have gone through so many changes in what it is permitted to call them. The viewpoint doesn’t change so each new term quickly becomes heard as a word of biased bigoted opprobrium. The problem is too much of that population got itself stuck on the proletarian level taking their living from the government in a society that should not have more than a vestigial proletariat and even the lefties see black folks in unflattering stereotypes and they work hard to keep them in those stereotypes.

I hope they find the perp and plant him in Korea.

I was working the gunshow this weekend and had a ~75 year old ass of a man go off on me because apparently having to wait 5 minutes to get in the building with his van was too much.

What did I do? I was insistant he move his van where it needed to be and then thanked him with a smile for his cooperation, while he cursed at me. Moral of the story? Even if someone actually does need a punch in the mouth, you don’t hit an older man.
