I was born in 58, and I think the 1960s was great time to grow up as well. Granted, it was not the simpler times of the 50s, but we did enjoy the pleasures of Saturday morning cartoons, new color televisions, the explosion of new toys, transistor radios, 60s rock & roll, landing on the Moon, stingray bikes, and we could go on forever about our favorite TV shows of the 1960s.

Exactly.
Stop and Frisk ,loitering laws were struck down, thanks ACLU.
Prison space is given last place on the ‘what do we spend taxpayers money on’ list. Along with cutting police jobs first in hard times.

I remember one of the arguments of the pro-pornography crowd back in the day went something like this.
‘If we allow explicit porn, then men will get sexually satisfied without having to rape, etc. Just look how well it works in Sweden’
Remember that one?

If the 50s were so great, why did the 60s happen?

Because that's when the Baby Boomers first became adolescents. And 45 years later.... many of them are still adolescents.

America peaked right around the year I was born (1958). It's been going downhill ever since - and I hope it's not my fault. ;-)

I’m 76.....I pick a lot of their tunes on the baritone uke on the porch for my 51 year bride.

76 ....51. Most impressive, young Skywalker.

Wow! That Utube sure brought back some memories. I am 71 and I loved the music of the 50’s. I resented The Beatles when they came in and changed things.

“Sounds like a great kid”

Oh he is. He is so different than others kids of his generation. Like, he has a PS3, but he is not interested in stupid to harmful video games that kids navigate too. He prefers playing sports video games like baseball, golf, and football. And even that is maybe a couple of hours a week. He likes the TV shows I grew up with like Gilligan, F-Troop, Adams family, etc, His favorite movie is Mr. Roberts, and he has memorized most of the best lines from the movie, and is happy to demonstrate as he bangs on your bathroom door, when you are sitting in there, yelling “Captain it is I, Ensign Pulver”. He calls hip-hop dumb dumb music, and calls Lady Ga Ga, Lady Blaugh Blaugh. And what does he want for his 10th Birthday? A Bob Ross Painting set and a Cricket .22LR rifle. That’s it. How blessed I will be if he stays on this path.

Things began to loosen up a bit in the 50s. It all seems rather innocent in retrospect - and seemed that way to many folks at the time, I’m sure.

Things continued to loosen up, and loosen up, and loosen up some more. Today we know where it all leads.

Perhaps we shouldn’t get too nostalgic about those “good old days”. After all, that’s when the seeds were planted which have now borne their ugly fruit.

Rock N Roll’s been going downhill ever since Buddy Holly died.
