WASHINGTON (AP) When the top echelons of the U.S. and Chinese military get together, they exchange smiles, handshakes and photographs. Behind the scenes, lower-ranking officers are planning for possible conflict.
A laborious Pentagon translation of hundreds of books and journal articles by mid-level Chinese military officers shows that Beijing's future military leadership sees U.S. military power as waning and plans to exploit weaknesses in U.S. weaponry and supply lines should conflict occur.
The Pentagon analysis of Chinese military writings was disclosed Thursday[, September 18 1997,] to the Senate Intelligence Committee in a hearing on intelligence challenges posed by China....

Add two to three decades and subtract fourteen years, and you've got six to sixteen years from now. This article was published long before 9/11. We know now that the American military was a lot tougher than thought at that time. I'm posting it to show that concern about Chinese belligerence was around even in the early days of FR.
Also, we know that America's debt troubles have only grown worse since then. Mainland China's a big creditor of the U.S. government now. Those junior officers in '97 have likely risen to higher and more responsible positions, and I see nothing that indicates they've changed their opinions. Suffice it to say that there's a cadre of Chinese officers who are well prepared to take advantage of any U.S. decline.
The original poster of this article, on September 18th, 1997, was none other than Jim Robinson. It got eight comments.
bump.
>Chinese see weaknesses in U.S. military
Really? Let’s have some “fun” then by having a million Chicoms invade our shores..
Is there a single one of the Republican candidates for POTUS who pays any attention to the Chinese threat? Duncan Hunter was the only one last time around. I’m sure the globalists like Romney and Perry don’t give a bleep, any more than Perry cares about the Aztec invasion, Reconquista, and Aztlan.
Fun....for who? Did you know Chinese competitors consistently win medals in international shooting competitions? Not bad for a country where its citizens do not have the right to bear arms and are relative new comers to the sport.
All this talk about China’s military capabilities is just that, all talk.
The fact of the matter aside from it’s own Vietnan border war in the late 70’s, over the past 50 years the Chinese have never engaged in a full scale conflict.
Therefore their soldiers/officers have virtually no real life experience in combat and dealing with the fog of war. Their only experience is repressing their large domestic population. So to think that they would undertake an action that would result in a full scale confrontation is not very possible. Only their nuclear arsenal makes them a world military power.
On the economic front, the size of their economy is about $6 trillion. Their 2 largest trading partners the US and the EU are in recession. So any economic growth the communists report is totally bogus, imho.

So you are you stating that Americans will just lay down and die?
No, wasn't stating that at all. It was you who implied it would be an easy task for Americans to fend off the Chinese by stating [Let's have some "fun"...] And I was stating that it won't be "fun".
