Sea Shepherd Conservation Societys Operation Ferocious Isles pilot whale defense campaign is almost over and it looks like our objective has been achieved. Not a single whale or dolphin has been killed on the beaches or in the waters of the Faeroe Islands under our watch this July and August.
Earlier in the summer, the Faeroese police ordered that no grinds (pilot whale drives and slaughter) would be allowed for as long as the Sea Shepherd ships were in Faeroese waters. Thus, our mere watchful presence prevented any killings this summer saving hundreds of whales as a result. Not a dramatic campaign by far, but enormously successful nonetheless.
It remains possible that whales may be killed after the Steve Irwin and the Brigitte Bardot leave patrol, but June, July, and August are the three most notorious months for the slaughter of the whales as they are peak migration months. Our objective was to prevent the killing of any whales during this period and that objective has been realized, therefore, Operation Ferocious Isles has been extraordinarily successful.
Additionally during the duration of the campaign, the crews of our two Sea Shepherd ships were able to meet and speak to hundreds of Faeroese youth. We were pleasantly surprised to find so many young people in opposition to the grind.
Sea Shepherd had hoped to make a public presentation but unfortunately, our request was denied by the Faeroese government, although our presence generated a great deal of publicity both in the Faeroes and in Denmark.
Significant campaign achievements include increasing international awareness of the whaling that takes place in the Faeroes, provoking controversy and discussion amongst the local people, increasing spending for the Danish Navy and police during the Sea Shepherds time in Faeroese waters, and most importantly, preventing a single grind from taking place.
It'll happen. And Captain Lardass will be to blame.
You are a parrot.
Go read my posts and you'll see that I do not side with the hippies ever...
I'm against whaling because I like whales, I got to see whales from 10 feet away in Alaska. I didn't say you are damned to hell if you disagree with me.
Also if you read my history on FR over the last decade you'll see that there is a difference in Minke Whales (Not Endangered) and Humpback and Fin Whales (endangered).
So no I am not a Greenpeace, Sea Shepherd supporter however I'm not a fan of harpooning endangered species.
For crying out loud, do you want your children to see Panda bears? They are endangered? I'd love to see a Wooly Mammoth but they are extinct.
You already disclosed your opinion when you said "Why do you object to people harvesting whales as they have for all of history?"
Well I can counter and say the Aztec chucked hearts down temples, the Mayans killed "winners" of a sports game, Al-Qaeda blows up innocent humans in the name of "Allah". Does that make it right because it is tradition?
So back off, go read my posts. I've done more for the Whale Wars Ping list than you'll ever know.
So no, I'm not a vegetarian however I don't eat fish maybe I'm crazy!!! I like beef, poultry, pork, lamb, veal, ect...
Go look at my posts over the last year and come back at me with your infantile statement.
The point of these threads are to MAKE FUN OF HIPPIES not have loons attack fellow FReepers and call us libs for opposing whaling WHEN IT WAS OUTLAWED IN 1986!!!
Woot!!! Apparently I’m a vegetarian now even though I’m heating up a cheese and sausage pizza in the oven. Don’t tell PETA :D
Thank you for your reply. I am sure that you are tired of responding to the same type of questions, over and over again. We can disagree as to whether the whaling done by the Faeroe Islanders has any serious effect on whale populations.

Why isn’t there a bounty on this pirate ship?
You like whales? How do you know you like whales? Can you prove you like whales? I think your position is very tenuous. And besides, who ever herd of a conservative conservationist.
Think of it this way. The People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) endorse killing whales. PETA's theory said one blue whale is equivalent to 1200 pigs. Therefore to eat one whale will save 1200 pigs lives.
"Eat The Whales" was launched outside the 2001 International Whaling Convention by PETA activists "distributing 'Eat the Whales' leaflets," as the press release puts it, "displaying a colorful 'Eat the Whales' banner, and serving 'whale meat' to nonvegetarians, pro- and anti-whalers alike," and it made (excuse the pun) a really big splash.
Remember, Moby Dick was nasty. Arnold the Pig was sweet.
You’re OCD?
I’m CDO, which is OCD with the letters in the right order.
Herd = heard.
To me it's like killing dogs and chimps and gorillas.
In my humble opinion whales are far more intelligent than deer. We don’t hunt gorillas or other apes either. At least the more civilized of us do not. What’s their excuse?
Where I’ve lived deer hunting was more about controlling deer populations. Without hunting within a few seasons there would be a winter starvation that no one would accept as well as far more roadkill.
With due respect, the extinction of the Wooly Mammoth had nothing to do with humans, unlike say the Dodo. Other than not being able to see either, I’m not too sure we’ve all been too inconvenienced. That said, I believe the evil Japanese are not hunting and killing “endangered species” of whales as those listed as such enjoy universal protection. Only a few types of whales are allowed to be slaughtered by international law and then, only a proscribed number. Your statement to the contrary is factually incorrect and somewhat hyperbolic. Now, would you agree that piracy as practiced by these anti-whalers is wrong, criminal and immoral? Or do you support them and what they do because you like whales?
One last note; your retort regarding Aztecs, Mayans and Al-Qaeda is a non-sequiter in as much as they slaughter(ed) Humans as opposed to mere animals.
Nothing wrong supporting a hippies if you believe in their cause, but do you support piracy in pursuit of that cause? What they do is illegal, not what the whalers do. So why do you support piracy on the open sea against those law abiding whalers in pursuit of their trade? Because you find whaling abhorrent? Then go change the law. You find it immoral? Then go change people’s minds and hearts. Supporting criminals who interfere in lawful commerce because you don’t like that commerce is wrong.
By the way, I can’t argue with PETA’s math!
Yes, I can’t stand hippies either. But this show supports their piracy. I’ve nothing against whaling (I’m a 100% for it!) and enjoy kicking hippies especially when they’re down, I’d just like a show that doesn’t support criminals. Ahh, wish in one hand....
Dogs are on the menu in many Asian countries. Cats in some Latin countries (a small town in Peru actually has a festival for all things cat!). Ok, you don’t like whale meat on your plate. Some people do. Some others like ape or monkey meat, veal, foie gras, anchovies, squid or even insects (locust is Kosher). Not liking what is on somebody else’s plate is no reason to go around disrupting a legal trade by illegal means.
Quite frankly I'm absolutely shocked that they raised the money to get the ship free and this was even dumber than fighting Japanese in the most dangerous waters on Earth.
The hippies boat was taken because they were fighting tuna fishers off of LIBYA!!!
I've always been one who said they are mentally deranged and should be locked up. And I believe Captain Cocopuffs is a monster looking to make martyrs out of the dumbest members of society.
I've always stuck by this line and never defended the commies under Captain Cocopuffs. I think they are dangerous HOWEVER, that doesn't mean the show doesn't entertain myself and many others here who enjoy hippies getting hosed with water, falling into water, making absolute fools of themselves on national television, ect...
Pan_Yan and I have been running these threads for a long time and on nearly every thread I (or someone else) have to say the same thing over and over. We do these threads for comedic relief, not to show solidarity with hippie morons from hell.
Like I said I think Captain Cocopuffs is a dangerous man, he will get someone killed and I believe he wants to. Why else would he have his moronic followers fight tuna fisherman off of Libya when there was a full fledged war???
Read my tagline and it describes Paul Watson and Sea Shepherd.
From reading your post I appreciate your words because you clearly understand my position and know I'm not supporting these morons. Thanks for not being knee jerk and if you are interested let Pan_Yan know and he can add you to the ping list.
There are a multitude of FReepers from all different views on the topic of whaling. However, we ALL are in unison in our opposition to Paul Watson and his gang of morons.
But yeah, pretty much on every thread someone pops up and assumes that our mocking the hippies somehow means we support them. We just mock them and laugh about it. Pan_Yan has links to the crazy whaling / anti-whaling flame fests. We try to keep these threads flame free, I try as much as possible to defuse that because that is not what these threads are about.
These threads are ONLY to keep everyone up to date as to what Sea Shepherd and Captain Cocopuffs are up to. We also have a few sleepers who get emails from Sea Shepherd and then come and post the emails here so we know when they go to Antarctica or wherever the heck they go. I had no idea they were fighting over tuna fish but liberalism is a mental disorder!
Anyways I hope this post helps explain these threads, why we don't like flame threads, and the point that we simply want to mock, humiliate and enjoy laughing like hyenas over the pure stupidity of Captain Cocopuffs and the lice infested hippies.
