MORRISON The state Board of Education is awaiting court paperwork before suspending the license of a former Fulton High School English teacher convicted this week of having sex with a 16-year-old boy.
Nicole R. Letcher, 26, of Fulton, pleaded guilty Tuesday to three counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse and was sentenced to 6 months in jail half of which shes already served and 4 years of probation. She also must register as a sex offender.
As part of her plea agreement, Whiteside County prosecutors dropped three other sexual abuse charges.
By state law, an aggravated criminal sexual abuse conviction means an automatic revocation of a teaching license or certificate, and placement in a national database for school districts to see, board spokeswoman Mary Fergus said.
The state has not yet received the final court disposition, so no action has been taken, she said.
Letcher and the boy had sex several times between December and May. The River Bend School District received a tip about them on May 25 and reported it to the state Department of Children and Family Services and to Fulton Police. She was arrested the next day.
Letcher resigned June 20, new Superintendent Richard Chuck Holliday said Wednesday.
The district will continue to report such incidents promptly and comply with authorities, he said.
Our top priority ... is the safety and well-being of our students and we are going to continue to keep that front and center, Holliday said.
Gotta just love her last name !! You couldn’t make that up!
Guilty!
OH NO! Miss Piggy’s been arrested!
Was she teaching blind students?
Very Guilty.
GUILTY!
GUILTY!
GUILTY!
(what has been seen cannot be unseen)
Yikes!
Still hittable, even with that “deer in the headlights” look.
After all, nobody (except Tom Delay) looks very good in their booking photo.
Natalie Maines really has gone downhill since she left the Dixie Chicks.
They say they all get prettier at closing time, but this one??? I don’t know.
Gentlemen and gentlewomen of the jury, we have here a reasoned appraisal. Myself, I don't think this rather compact lady will keep with age, but that's then and this is now... and the lad is 16.
Ouch - she does look like her.
