NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Canisters of bull semen caused quite a scare on the on-ramp to Interstate 65 South Tuesday morning.

The canisters fell off a Greyhound bus just after 5 a.m. as the bus traveled around the curve of the ramp just south of downtown Nashville.

Fire and emergency crews were called to the scene amid reports of a foul odor.

They put the bull in a set of stocks or a squeeze chute-kind of like a stout metal cage. Most bulls aren’t too upset once they get used to the process.

Well, extraction from racing horses was an episode of “Dirty jobs”. I bet the process is prety much the same.

I used to tell my wife we should stop buying a cheap clean up bull since he always sired more calves than the AI. And you are right about the electronically stimulation...actually they use the same set up as collecting seman for trich exams.

If you only have one cow, you are probably going to have a problem catching her in heat so you can get her inseminated. You may see more of your vet than you really want to.

You can collect a bull using the same set up as horses. Most use the electical method on bulls because it is easier and safer. Some bulls are really dangerous. You can’t collect a horse with the electrical method.

The old textbooks show a 2-man team of collectors wearing protective gear in a chute. Nowadays they have hydraulic squeeze chutes that contain the electro-excited bull so probably one guy can play catcher.

Did Trailways close down? Haven’t seen one of their buses in years.

I’m not gonna even ask how they get bull semen into the canisters..
Met a woman in a bar once who, how should I say it, "manually manipulated" race horses to obtain semen for artificial insemination. Thought hard about going home with her - two conflicting emotions - 1) she would be REALLY experienced 2) she would be REALLY disappointed.

“How do you get the bull to hold still for this?
Soft lights, candles, and a Barry White CD mix ... “

One might think of the scene from “The Right Stuff”

No foolin’... As a youth I worked on a dairy. Found out on Day 1 not to grab the cows by the horns. Nothing like a toss of the head by a 1200 pound animal.
