Channel surfing this afternoon, Discovery Channel has somehow lost all the shows I like this weekend, and I'm bored.
Even though, it's a slow news day - I decided on the default choice: Fox News.
Lo and behold:
"But Wait! Order in the next (insert time frame here) minutes, and you can double your order for free, just pay shipping and handling".
That's when the epiphany struck, and it became clear. Bet you'll realize it's true, also:
My point is that global competition is healthy, and there is no reason to quake in your boots because a growing and modernizing China builds weapon system.
I point in reply, not so far back in world history, to the singularly meaningful phrase:
“Arsenal of Democracy”.
With the reminder, not only does the PRC now have our once-world history’s most formidable, leading edge factories.
China also has 5 times our working-(military) age population. Our technology. Our industry. And trillions of dollars of our money.
But you just keep on whistling: “Don’t worry, be happy”.
Maybe some mice will follow you.
Those were the amazing heaters which produced 5118 BTUs of heat... which just happens to be the exact amount any 1500 watt electric space heater produces.
People will do what the government manipulates them to do, especially globalist greedballs.
Why do you think there is such a thing as tax policy if not to manipulate behavior?
Do you voluntarily pay more for work you have done for you when cheaper labor is just another click or phone call away?
Do you shop online instead of locally sometimes? If so you may be a globalist greedball too.
Simple solution:
Eliminate all taxation, except for import tariffs.
And the unemployed low IQ types who used to work in this country, we'll send them to live at hour house. I hope you have a big backyard.
Change the word China to Japan in your statement. Then roll back the clock to December 6th, 1941. Sounds pretty lame doesn't it?
I'm right there with you on that one.
It worked just fine when this country started, it would work just fine now.
The only thing you have to make sure of is that it is a flat tariff for all imported items; no special treatment for anybody.
Very true, Jane. Those commercials are not very nice. It helps me to remember that the children are actors. :)
100% agreed!
I’ll stop ranting now. Carry on. :D
The 2 situations and countries are not even remotely comparable. Not even close.
Your also making an assumption that China's modernization necessarily means war with the United States. It does not. A China mired in communism with a leadership largely unconnected and not integrated with the world community was also dangerous and not preferable to the current state of affairs.
You have a terribly irrational fear of China. It sounds like it springs from believing only fear mongering, probably largely union stuff where trade is concerned, arguments and not seeing the big picture. Have you been to China? Anywhere in Asia?
First, China is 1.3 billion people - of course as they modernize they will grow more powerful militarily. With that economic and military strength they will look to assert themselves and you can see that fairly dramatic effect on some of the foreign policy decisions made by its neighbors. Once China dumped their communist economic system, there was no possible way for the United States to stop this. The only thing we can do is help manage it. India is on largely the same trajectory - only India is doing it in a slower but probably sounder manner. Second, China is a house of cards. China has extremely serious economic problems it is papering over, but it is very possible the next great "crash" will be in China. They need us, FAR more than we need them. Also, political change is coming to China, and when the people one day assert themselves and force out the ruling "communists in name only", the entire situation will look completely different.
Back in the 80's we were told we were "turning Japanese" and we had to fear the Japanese government/business partnership. One lost decade later and no one talks that way anymore. We're also told from time to time we need to emulate the German industrial engine. Just as recently as a few months ago. Now that German economic activity has ground to a complete halt (in spite of benefiting from a weak Euro), I somehow doubt we'll be hearing that for awhile.
We have the means to make this country more competitive. We can do it through our own tax policies, we can do it by cutting regulation and getting government off the backs of business, and we can do it by launching an energy independence drive that taps this nations wealth of resources (that alone would create a boom the likes we have not seen for decades - and put a lot of blue collar folks to work as a result).
I’d rather not chance it, I hope we can keep the Free Traitors from off shoring what’s left of our industrial base. I doubt it, even if every regulation, union, and tax were eliminated the pace of our off shoring wouldn’t even slow down. It isn’t about those things, it’s just those things make good excuses for the Free Traitor selling out the country. I consider Free Traitors one step above flesh eating amoeba.
The “Amish” heater is a testimonial to the gullibility of the American consumer.
I’ve even had FReepers argue with me that is can somehow produce “better” heat than a 20 buck heater from Walmart.
Sham Wow is made in Germany, but otherwise your point is true.
Take away “As Seen on TV” and there goes Christmas at my house.
Is dat so? Then, I am glad I never bought one!

They must have fallen for the work-from-home-scams.
I think I should have been more specific in my levity.
I was writing of the assemble-from-home
