Friends revulsion at film that portrays Lady Thatcher as 'granny going mad'

Friends of Margaret Thatcher last night expressed their revulsion at a new film that shows her having nightmares about the miners’ strike and the Falklands War, while her late husband Denis appears as a ghost in a pink turban raging at her -‘insufferable’ selfishness.

Viewers invited to an early screening of the film, The Iron Lady, starring Meryl Streep as the former Prime Minister and Jim Broadbent as Sir Denis, were aghast at the way that it mocks her frail condition in recent years.

One called it ‘insulting’. Another said: ‘I didn’t come here to see a film about granny going mad.’

One person who attended the event, organised by Anglo-French film-makers Pathe to test audience reaction, has given a detailed account to The Mail on Sunday.

In the film, Lady Thatcher constantly hallucinates, under the impression that her husband, who died in 2003, is still alive.

Pathe says the story is about ‘power and the price that is paid for power’ and claims her health is ‘treated with sensitivity’. It concedes the film is fiction but says it is ‘fair and accurate’.

Made by Mamma Mia! director Phyllida Lloyd, The Iron Lady is based on a script by UK screenwriter Abi Morgan, whose television drama credits include The Hour and Sex Traffic.

Friends of Lady Thatcher are also furious at the timing of the film, which is due to be released in January. The former Prime Minister has been forced to give up ¬public appearances following a series of strokes and is so poorly she was unable to attend the unveiling of a statue of her political ally Ronald Reagan in London last month.

If they were to make a film about Martin Luther King and what went on at the Lorraine Motel just before he was shot I think the libs would be aghast and curse the filmmakers for making such a scrofulous film. But it would not be fiction. Turnabout is fair play, you know.

The life of Lady Thatcher is astounding, there is no way a single movie could depict her life and achievements, would have to be a mini series at the very least.

Geeezz....I am just reading her autobiography—She had read Hayek at 20 years of age and got a degree in Chemistry at Oxford before her law degree. She was such an intelligent, Christian person, who loved everything English, but knew of her faults. She thoroughly understood the evil of socialism.

That is why the Marxists are portraying her this way....She even had read Karl Popper’s book on the Poverty of Historicism before she got her undergraduate degree-—which proved the fraud of Marx and the socialist direction her country was taking.

The venom with which left liberals have for MT is quite amazing. Ronald Reagan has become a historical figure and even BO says positive things about him. MT, however, still produces carpet chewing rage. The left in the UK nourishes conspiracy theories about the Falklands War similar to the 9-11 Truthers. Somehow the Thatcher government manipulated Argentina to invade the Falkland Islands so MT could extend her sty as PM by ‘doing the Churchill trick’ as the left calls it. These people are as delusional as the DU is about Bush so it is no surprise this sort of weird treatment was produced as a biopic of MT.

One thing that keeps people from going around randomly hitting other people is the fear that they will get hit back. Hollywood and the MSM have had no such fear. They produce what they want because they don't get sued often enough, and because no one is making films about them. How would Meryl Streep respond to a movie about her life that was inaccurately skewed to make her look bad? How would Larry King respond to a movie about his life, from the perspective of his ex-wives? How would Alec Baldwin react to a movie that depicted him as an angry, controlling, overweight man, and that featured the perspective of his ex-wife? etc. etc. I would think that with all the video and graphics expertise out there it wouldn't be too hard to put together a group of conservative Michael Moore types.
