A little background: my father, who recently passed away, had three of these stored with some silver rounds, so I tend to believe they have some value. However, no one I've asked, including a coin shop, has any idea.

Description: Square piece of an unknown metal mesh glued to each side of a piece of plastic.

Smartass bait? Stupid joke generator?

I am sorry for the recent loss of your father.

It sure does look like on of those air ionizer things. But with the dab of glue in the middle, one must ask.. Is there an opening in the plastic where the screen is? Can air pass thru the screen? Or is the the screen glued to a solid square of plastic?

I agree with the one poster who speculated that it might be a platinum-bearing screen. Especially if dad had it stored as a valuable, and if there’s not a hole thru the plastic part.

Probably one of those air-ionizer things, but might be part of an electrolytic cell, and contain valuable platinum.

That’s a pre-air filter for a 6.5 HP Briggs & Stratton vertical crankshaft lawnmower engine.
As hard as it may be to believe, that particular lawnmower was made of solid gold: The wheels, the handle and the deck. It was impossible to push so they only sold one.
A Saudi prince owns it now. I’m sure he’s wondering where the air filter is and I hope someone reads this post to him and it drives him crazy.

It’s a THINGAMAJIGGER and soon the US Department of the Interior, Land, Dohickies, and Other such things (DILDOs) will introduce new regulations make it extremely expensive to operate.

It’s nothing. Only a little crazy thing your Dad made out of scraps he had around the house. He hid it away where, when found, you would think it was valuable. Just to drive you nuts for the rest of your life. The way you drove him nuts. It is your Dad’s version of “gotcha.”

It’s a pocket lint collector, which you will need after the dimwits in DC have sucked all the money out of your pocket.

If the plastic was used to mount it, then it must have been of some value. Maybe the screen is made of precious metals.

It’s one of those thingamajigs that plugs into the watchyamacallit so the dohickey will work.
I saw one theotherday at whatshisnames house.
A conservative estimate at auction it would be worth six to seven thousand cents.

Perhaps it is a catalyser ? If so, it could be of a rare metal, perhaps platinum. Or it could be very common like the air ionizer someone mentioned.

I’m almost betting that you practically tripped over the Air Purifier to get to the box/drawer/cupboard that contained these 3 little items.

I find it strange that there's no printing on that pen. Shouldn't there be something like "Al's Used Cars" and a phone number written on it?

This mystery is getting weirder and weirder........

Since you say it was stored with silver, there is a chance that it is an electrolytic cleaning plate. These plates are used with a solution to remove patina from antique silver.
