"Shaun the Sheep"

Is this the character done by Nick Park, of Wallace and Gromit fame? I've seen "A Close Shave", in which Shaun the Sheep is a main character.

Park is just brilliant! "A Grand Day Out" is terrific, and "The Wrong Trousers" is just hilarious!

I love the Sherlock Holmes series with Jeremy Brett. I never got “fruity”... I would describe his character as “proper British” and “sometimes intellectually cold”. I thought the series was true to the story line. I guess it is a guilty pleasure. I also enjoyed the “Brother Cadfael” series as well. Another “who-dunnit” type series.

Cadfael was pretty good, too. Derek Jacobi is quality. Sherlock’s a little fruity. I mean, no girlfriends? And what’s up with Dr. Watson. He admires the babes, but never goes for it. Just sayin’.

In the stories, Dr. Watson is pretty much of a ladies man. He also gets married. Sherlock is mostly non romantic except for “the woman” Irene Adler. Even with her it is mostly admiration rather than love.

“Sherlock’s a little fruity... no girlfriends?”

I may be wrong but Holmes’ character never married or was linked romantically (as far as I can remember). There was one story about a female character that actually beat him intellectually. My memory isn’t serving me on the title but it had to do with a letter. I remember that Watson stated that Holmes always referred to her as “the woman”and not “a woman”. Obviously he had great respect and admiration for her. Here is an interesting point that a English teacher told us: the reader only truly learns of Holmes’ brilliance via Watson. Essentially, the reader gets an impression that Holmes is a genius but only through Watson’s description about Holmes do we understand his true brilliance. (See that! All this time you thought I was just a pretty face! LOL!!)

“A Scandal in Bohemia”... was the title of the story with Irene Adler. Or, “the woman”. (I had to look it up or it would have driven me crazy all night!)

In the new interpretation on PBS Holmes is accused of being a psychopath by one of the Police Detectives.

Holmes quips “I am a high functioning sociopath, do your research !”.

One of the best lines in an outstanding adaptation. The cab ride with Watson and Holmes in the first episode was a joy to watch.

“That, was, ,,amazing”.

If you are a Holmes fan I strongly urge you to check it out in Netflix.

Cheers,

I think Britt was the closest to the literary Holmes. However I enjoy them all. For “ something new and different”, I recommend the current Sherlock on BBC translated into the 21st century. It is funny and fast paced. Not to be taken too seriously.

Thanks for the tip... I will definitely check it out. I laughed at the “high functioning sociopath, do your research!” I do remember one episode where he solved a case for a widowed woman with children. The little girl thanked him and briefly... just for a second, he smiled. He then returned to his “normal” face. That is why I like this interpretation.. it makes the viewer really watch the episode and interpret things on their own.

I’ve actually never read any of it. Just started watching the Jeremy Brett shows a couple months ago.

I have always liked Sherlock Holmes since I saw one of the “Hound of the Baskervilles” movies as a child. Around 20 years ago I bought a thick book titled something like “The Complete Sherlock Holmes Stories”

I read them all only to discover several years later that the book did not actually have them all. I still haven’t read every single one. There really are a lot of them.
