Cadfael was pretty good, too. Derek Jacobi is quality. Sherlock’s a little fruity. I mean, no girlfriends? And what’s up with Dr. Watson. He admires the babes, but never goes for it. Just sayin’.
In the stories, Dr. Watson is pretty much of a ladies man. He also gets married. Sherlock is mostly non romantic except for “the woman” Irene Adler. Even with her it is mostly admiration rather than love.
“Sherlock’s a little fruity... no girlfriends?”
I may be wrong but Holmes’ character never married or was linked romantically (as far as I can remember). There was one story about a female character that actually beat him intellectually. My memory isn’t serving me on the title but it had to do with a letter. I remember that Watson stated that Holmes always referred to her as “the woman”and not “a woman”. Obviously he had great respect and admiration for her. Here is an interesting point that a English teacher told us: the reader only truly learns of Holmes’ brilliance via Watson. Essentially, the reader gets an impression that Holmes is a genius but only through Watson’s description about Holmes do we understand his true brilliance. (See that! All this time you thought I was just a pretty face! LOL!!)
