Sarah Palin on Immigration (in her own words)
On the Issues ^ | Updated Aug 2011 | Sarah Palin

Posted on 08/14/2011 7:12:33 PM PDT by Clairity

Supports a path to citizenship, but no amnesty for illegals

Q: Should undocumented immigrants all should be deported?

A: There is no way that in the US we would roundup every illegal immigrant - there are about 12 million of the illegal immigrants - not only economically is that just an impossibility but that's not a humane way anyway to deal with the issue.

Q: Do you then favor an amnesty for the 12 million undocumented immigrants?

A: No, I do not. Not total amnesty. You know, people have got to follow the rules. We have got to make sure that there is equal opportunity and those who are here legally should be first in line for services being provided and those opportunities that this great country provides.

Q: So you support a path to citizenship for undocumented immigrants?

A: I do because I understand why people would want to be in America. To seek the safety and prosperity, the opportunities, the health that is here. It is so important that yes, people follow the rules so that people can be treated equally and fairly in this country.

=====

Took no action on Alaska's "sanctuary cities" Lou Dobbs notes that at least two of Alaska's cities have been officially designated as sanctuary cities: "An August 14, 2006 report produced by the Congressional Research Service listed 31 cities and counties that have 'don't ask, don't tell' sanctuary policies in place. They [include] Anchorage, Alaska [and] Fairbanks, Alaska. Alaska and Oregon both have state-wide policies that forbid state agencies from using resources to enforce federal immigration law."

Apparently, this is by design from the highest levels.

In fact, a resolution to that effect was passed in the Alaska state legislature in 2003 (before Palin's election): "[Alaska] House Joint Resolution 22 - May 2003: Establishes that state agencies and instrumentalities may not use state resources or institutions for the enforcement of federal immigration laws, which are the responsibility of the federal government."

It’s not clear whether Gov. Palin has ever weighed in, pro or con, on Alaska’s sanctuary policies.

Tightened restrictions on illegal alien's drivers licenses

There has been an ongoing fight in Alaska over drivers' licenses for illegals. A bill banning drivers' licenses for illegals passed the Alaska state senate in 2003 [before Palin was elected governor]: "JUNEAU (AP) - The state Senate approved a bill that tightens the standards for getting a driver’s license by requiring applicants prove they are in the country legally and by placing time limits on licenses for legal aliens."

The measure did not pass into law. In any event, Palin's DMV subsequently tightened the administrative regulations on drivers' licenses, thereby giving rise to a lawsuit by some folks who found the new restrictions inconvenient.

THE MIGHTY D says there’s a secret cabal out there emailing furiously amongst themselves about evil people like us who support Palin.

This is not the first time, Norm, and we're all still here, while many of the old guard PDS'ers are not.

The old 2008 Univision interview that the PDS'ers like to toss around was Steve Schmidt's script, which she was compelled to follow as McCain's running mate. She talks about it in Going Rogue, which none of the Perrywinkles on this thread have bothered to read.

Her more recent support of Jan Brewer and Arizona's illegal immigration law buries the Univision and Schmidt meme.

I’m not saying you have to agree with Sarah about everything, I’m saying that I agree with her on this point. But she seemed to be saying that was a general election strategy, and that’s how I feel as well. In the primary, we don’t work for “anybody but Obama”, we work to get a good conservative and then build them up so that they have the support needed to beat Obama.

The fear I have is if we tear down the possible acceptable conservative candidates so much in the primary, we either leave the winner with so many negatives among the republican base (because of the negative attacks), and maybe also sour independents to our candidate; or worse, that we split the conservative vote and Romney gets in like McCain did in 2008.

The best way to make sure we don’t have to choose between Romney and Obama is to make sure that one of the more conservative candidates wins the nomination.

Canada has a great guest worker system, although it’s a little bit too “central-planning”. Each year every employer files with the government requesting the number of workers they need for seasonal labor. Those jobs are advertised in Canada, to see if there are citizens/residents who want them. Meanwhile, foreigners register with the program, and then workers are obtained through the program by the employers.

As part of the initial employment, the foreign workers are provided with transportation back to their country at the end of the employment period, and they are tracked to make sure they have gone.

I believe we need seasonal employees for farms. There may be some americans willing to do the work, but we aren’t a nation of people who are willing to travel around from town to town and state to state living in quarters and picking crops in the sun every day. But it should be easy to get the migrants back out of the country, because the work is seasonal.

Our biggest flaw in that regard is that we do a lousy job of tracking down people with expired visas.

Now, the technical skills immigration policy seems to have broken, as we have lots of skilled technical people who aren’t getting jobs while we bring in laborers from other countries for positions that could be long-term. Again though, I’m not sure if we could fill those jobs, but we need to do a better job of ensuring that we don’t have residents before we bring in foreigners.

I’m not for reducing the number of legal immigrants. I don’t think the legal immigration is killing us, it’s the huge number of illegal immigrants added on top of the legel immigrants. I do think we need to be more selective on who we let immigrate.

So what you're really saying ONYX, since all you have is bluster and no links is you can't find ONE source to quote and link of the pure and perfect Sarah Palin where she refutes her Oct 2008 quote about supporting a path to citizenship for illegal aliens?
Where is it? Come on! WHERE?
What's RINO Perry said? Let's see...

Good morning! You must really love to look foolish, NEWZJUNKKEY....LOL. Perry is a RINO? You said that, not me....ROFL.

POST # 239 among several others, had you bothered to read the thread from *last night*!

I prefer the quotes from her interviews with Greta and O'Reilly in 2010 to this older interview.

PALIN ON IMMIGRATION IN HER OWN WORDS - 2010

PALIN (to Greta): People mock the idea of a fence. What's wrong with building a fence? Yes, let's physically secure the border. Let's ramp up border control. Let's provide the tools for those who are putting their lives on the line in order to stop illegal immigration of these aliens. Those are a couple of things.

And then you don't start talking about amnesty, either, kind of as this last-minute, Oh, anybody who's here in the country right now, we're going to provide you amnesty, and even though you've broken the law and we are a nation of laws, you've broken that, we'll still give you -- because then there's going to be a huge influx of those wanting kind of at the last minute to come over the border because they know that they will forever then receive that amnesty.

So you don't start talking about that, but the very first thing you do is physically, literally secure those borders. It baffles me and most Americans why for all these years presidents, administrations have spoken about it but never done it.
O'REILLY: All right, but I'm talking Texas, California, New Mexico, all of them. So you'd send maybe 10,000, 15,000 National Guard down there to assist the Border Patrol, yes?

PALIN: Whatever it takes. Whatever it takes.

O'REILLY: All right, so you'd militarize the border. You'd finish the fence, finish building the fence from Brownsville to San Diego, yes?

PALIN: Yes.

O'REILLY: Ok, the people watching this program have it. We have it. We assume that you, as president, would secure the border. I have confidence that you would do that. But now you have to look inward, all right? And you've got 12 million people staring at you. What are you going to have them do?

PALIN: You're not going to give them a free pass. You're not going to say, OK, you and anybody else who wants to scurry across this porous border between now and when we finally do finally get it fenced in and physically secure, we're going to give you a free pass.

O'REILLY: All right.

PALIN: And just because you've broken law in the past…

O'REILLY: So no amnesty.

PALIN: …we can trust you. No, no amnesty.

O'REILLY: But what do you do with these folks?

PALIN: Which means…

O'REILLY: Do you make them register with the federal government? Do you tell them they have 60 days to get out of here before we put you in jail? What do you do with them?

PALIN: Do we make them register with the federal government? Yes, we do. We're not going to give them a free pass.

O'REILLY: So you make them register with the federal government.

PALIN: We're not going to reward the bad behavior.

O'REILLY: And if they don't register with the -- say you gave them 60 days to register with the federal government. There's a form at the post office they have to send in like a Census form. All right, say they didn't do it.

PALIN: You deport them.

I don’t know of any palin supporters who have been zotted. Pissant was a Hunter supporter who thought Palin was too liberal, and he was zotted but he did make a crude sexual reference to Palin. Of course, that’s the rules, even if selectively enforced; as a 2008 Romney supporter, I learned to follow the rules scrupulously, even if others were breaking them, because I could always be zotted for violating things like “No profanity, No personal attacks, No racism or violence in posts”.

And I saw one Bachmann supoporter get zotted for being too critical of Sarah Palin in a way people felt was “trolling”.

I’ve seen a lot of negative things posted about Perry, but I haven’t seen a concerted zotting effort by the usual suspects yet.

I hope that some of the zotted long-time freepers are just in “time-out”, and will be allowed back if they want.

I read the book (well, I read parts of the book, and listened to parts of the book because I like her voice).

I don’t remember anything in the book repudiating that interview. I believe her O’Reilly and other interviews since have clarified and expanded it more. Maybe you could tell me the page in Going Rogue where she refudiates that interview for me, since you seem familiar with it. I can’t find it.

Likewise... and if Sarah doesn’t run, she will still be a write-in for me.

If “We the People” are NOT going to have a choice in which one (Dem or Rino), let the Dems take credit for what they and their their ilk are trying to do to OUR Republic.

And I was also thinking the same about the House and Senate... If we can get both, then we can start to clean up... If we can get all 3, then we can start a BIG fix that is decades late and put OUR Republic back on the right path the way it was originally intended to begin with.

(I ignore PDSers and trolls, btw, so please don’t expect a reply if you PDSers/trolls throw me bait).

Palin didn’t state support for this “put the illegals in line with the others” idea, so let’s not try to spread the false rumor that she did.

Not that it should matter, except to maybe old ladies or folks acting like *harpies*, trying to vent and whine, but I know of three Palin supporters who have been banned.

Two were retreads and the other supporter got *carried away* much like rabid supporters of others. Ditto for the retreads getting *carried away* with their support and attacks on others.

A troll is a troll is a troll and a disruptor is a disruptor. Those folks don’t serve any useful purpose.

Jim is a fair broker. I am not a moderator and have never been a moderator, but it’s my understanding that posters are banned most often for being retread trolls -— like the lastest casuality, RINOSsuck -— and for supporting Romney, abortions, the homosexual agenda, and for a history of disruptive behavior and posting. It matters NOT which candidate a member supports, or doesn’t support, so long as it’s not Romney.

Calling supporters *cultists*, is a prime example of disruptive behavior which almost always leads to the start of flame wars. pissant learned that the hard way. He made several enemies and he finally went too far in one of his posts.

We’re all supposed to be Conservatives here, so unless a candidate isn’t a Conservative, like Romney, and for the better part, I’m pretty happy to support the one of my choice and leave the wars about other candidates to their supporters.

All of us have enemies. Some more than others. Not much can be done about that. We can only be responsible for our own behavior and posts. There’s no rule that says every ping has to be answered. Consider the source and decide....lol.

Good morning dear friend! Thanks very much for your kind words! I see that the retread troll is GONE! Recall that we spotted him the other night!

LOL@you’re not taking the bait! GOOD on you! I usually don’t either. Heck, half the time I don’t see several of the pings to me, which is likely a good thing....LOL. I might cry if I did...!

Sarah Palin will announce *in her chosen time*. She has her reasons for waiting, but once she does, bar the door Nellie or is it Katie?

I hope this day stays as happy as it’s started!

My best to you!
