Mitt finished 1st in 2008. No candidate who has finished less then 2nd has ever won the nomination. It not me that does not understand the significance of this event.
Spin all you want, this indicates that Romney does NOT have the grass roots support the GOP Establishment bots are claiming for him. Finishing this poorly indicates Mitt is in very serious trouble.

Or it means Romney didn’t bus in supporters as is typical in this worthless event.
Ooops.. That is exactly what happened.

No candidate who has finished less then 2nd has ever won the nomination. McCain finished in 10th place in '07.

No candidate who has finished less then 2nd has ever won the nomination. Not true:
Ames Straw Poll results, August 2007
1) Romney
2) Huckabee
3) Brownback
4) Tancredo
5) Paul
6) T. Thompson
7) F. Thompson
8) Giuliani
9) Hunter
10) McCain (0.7%)
11) Cox
McCain ended up winning the nomination.

It doesn't mean anything.
Just like Bachmann finishing 1st or Ron Paul finishing 2nd doesn't mean anything. They just spent more.
Iowa voters like being bribed for votes.
Romney's SuperPAC still has around 20 times the cash of any other campaign. He isn't going anywhere. And most people will still vote for him because "he looks nice."
