Ive heard good and bad, pro & con. Its been out there long enough for opinions to be formed.
Should I upgrade to IE9?
used IE for years- switched to FireFox...one of the best computer decisions i ever made...
Just make sure you’re logged in.
I tried FireFox and didnt like the bookmark system compared to IE...maybe its my lower IQ...
Definitely. Both IE9 and Firefox 5 made Facebook not work. Good enough reason to upgrade in my opinion. Any site that puts a Facebook embed in it only shows a Facebook logo and not all the other stuff.
I went to IE 9 upgrade just about when it became available . Virtually no Iternet explorer has stopped working warnings. Also seems to work fine in compatibility mode when needed.
Yes - upgrade to IE 9. That said, I prefer Firefox.
Since parts of IE are required by windows, not upgrading to the latest version is insane. 9 has better malware protection, and fewer vulnerabilities. Even it you never use it you should upgrade just to protect your computer.
My wife recently upgraded to IE9 without meaning to (just applied recent MS updates without really looking) and she didn’t even notice the difference.
I only use IE for sites that are not Firefox friendly.
Firefox is just plain faster
It doesn’t hurt, and it upgrades you to Window’s latest browser, even if you don’t use it.
I’d install it because that way you have all the current updates applicable to your OS, but I’d use Firefox as my main browser.
I installed IE9 Beta a long time ago. Works great. Now they want me to upgrade to IE9 and my beta version won’t allow me to complete the install. I’ve tried several methods to eliminate IE9 Beta, but I can’t. Even all of the MS support help can’t get ride of the Beta version.
I’ll just live with the Beta and no upgrades from now unitl I do a clean install.
It works much better and faster for me. The only downside is that the command bar is relocated, so it takes a while to get used to where things are.
Remember, IE9 only runs on the most recent flavors of Microsoft's operating systemWindows 7 and Vistaand there are separate installers for the two and separate versions for 32-bit and 64-bit editions.
After downloading the correct installer, running it takes longer than installing Chrome, Firefox, or Opera (Free, 4 stars), and, also unlike those, it requires a reboot and OS updates.
I also bought Windows 7 at 3 for $100 from Amazon. It's the first Microsoft product since DOS 6.11 that was worth spending 33 bucks on.
There should be a “Restore Point” set at the time you installed that Beta. Select to restore your pc to that date, then run the updates, then if needed, install away.
Was that hard to do? I'm no computer whiz..so would I try doing that on my own - or have a more computer literate person help me do it?
That sounds like a great bargain!!
NO! I hate IE9...
