Talk to anyone in my business and they'll all say the same thing: No matter how long you write stories and put them in the newspaper, you are never really sure which ones are going to strike a nerve.
[snip]
Requests for the photo, and use of the story, have come from the Department of Veterans Affairs, military publications, Arlington National Cemetery. Soldiers in Afghanistan have inquired about the photo, including some from the Screaming Eagles of the 101st Airborne Division, stationed at Bagram Airfield.
"I sent a good-sized one to a base in Afghanistan because they wanted to build a memorial to members of their unit who had been killed," Glick said.
This letter, from Atlanta, was typical:
"You have no idea just how much this photo and story mean to so many of us who have served. We do not ask for special treatment; we do not ask for your gratitude; we don't even ask for your patience when we occasionally 'geeze' with old stories. We would like to have some understanding just how much service to this great nation means to each of us. Your picture and story show me that some do understand."

Another observation, the tombstone with the eagle is the only one in the entire cemetery that is casting a shadow..........
Great movie...nearly anything with Robert Duvall in it has value...one of my favorites with him is “Open Range”.
I saw this a few days ago and was delighted with it.
To all the doubters I say,” I would like to just be happy with the image”, real or changed!
I loved this picture and have saved and printed it!
I don’t care if it is real...The “feeling” is what I like.
I wish the birth certificate mess had not made everyone challenge everything posted.
I was just poking a little fun...people are too darn cynical about nearly everything. I would like to think of how great it would be to see a bald eagle alight on my parent’s tombstone in Arlington...
Thank you for the ping, AW...
Someone sent me this photo a couple weeks ago. I kept it. It’s awesome!
L have seen Bald Eagles ground level several times while im fishing . I walked right up on one. I was not paying attention and neither was the Eagle. Her was eating a rather large striped bass. surprised the heck out of both of us.
It was an awesome experience.
Where I live, I see plenty of eagles on the ground, feasting on roadkill carcasses.
At 6:00 a.m. in early to mid April in Minnesota, the sun hasn't even begun to rise.
Great to see you recently! Be well!
My husband is in Arlington too. Love to see it fly over the scene!
