Save for later
Love this thread/post. I’m certain I’ll be referring back to it often in the crevo debates as well as my adult Sunday school classes.

They try to pretend it is just one theory and one man they oppose - but they oppose every branch of science - because no branch of science supports their peculiar theology.
Geology reject a young Earth and the idea that major features that took millions of years to form were all formed during a forty day global flood within the last few thousand years. Creationists reject geology.
Physics rejects a young Earth and the idea that radioactive decay wildly fluctuates without giving off heat such that the Earth could possibly be only a few thousand years old. Creationists reject physics.
Astronomy rejects the idea that light is highly variable in speed and that all light from objects one hundred million light years away actually are from objects that only existed within the last few thousand years and the light traveled that distance in that short amount of time. Creationists reject astronomy.
The movement of the plates of the Earth explain how South America and Africa were once contiguous - they reject that such a change in the position of the continents could happen in the last couple thousand years - it took many millions of years. Creationists reject plate tech-tonics.
Etc, etc, etc.
Cry about it all you want - creationists are not at war with just one scientist and one theory - they are at war with science as a way of gaining reliable information about the universe.
Being a creationist means never having to let something silly like EVIDENCE change your opinion. They are at war with the very idea of allowing evidence to influence ones opinion on the age of the Earth, or any other matter of physical reality which contradicts them - i.e. the vast majority of physical reality.

Professor Jim Tour should be added to that list.

Therefore, in light of my Constitutional first amendment freedom to believe and testify of my beliefs in a manner unhindered by any governmental order, lets begin. Based upon my study of the scriptures, which I have studied more than any other topic in my life, including chemistry, I believe:
The Bible is the inspired word of God. Faithful Jewish scholars have preserved the Old Testament through the ages and it is an accurate account of Gods dealing with mankind, and more specifically, with the Jewish people. The New Testament, particularly the record in the four Gospels, is based upon eye-witnessed historical accounts that are accurate beyond compare to any historical documents of their time.[1]
Jesus Christ is the Son of God, and God himself, as declared in the New Testament.[2]
Jesus Christ came to earth as the long-awaited Jewish Messiah to fulfill that which had been written about him in the Old Testament.[3]
Although sinless himself, Jesus Christ suffered and died for the sins of humankind, he was buried, and three days later he physically rose from the dead and appeared to many, including more than 500 people at one time. He then ascended to heaven to be seated at the right hand of his Father.[4]
By the act of suffering, dying, and resurrection, Jesus provided the one and only way for any person to have an eternal relationship with God.[3-5]
Regardless of ones religious or ethnic background, nobody is born a Christian or automatically comes into salvation.[6]
Salvation, or eternal life in Jesus, comes through a new spiritual birth into Jesus Christ.[7]
There is nothing one can do to earn salvation, but it comes through believing and confessing the work that Jesus Christ did in dying for our sins and in his physical resurrection from the dead.[8]
New birth, or salvation, is witnessed to the world by changes in followers lives, actions and words.[9]
To those who have received Jesus Christ as their savior, they are no longer under the Old Testament Law, but are told to obey the commandments in the New Testament, of which there are more than 150.[10] [Letter on Faith, HTML or PDF format]
These commandments not only focus on the physical acts to be valued by Jesus followers, but they directly address the followers heart attitudes.[11]
God provides sufficient grace for the believer in Jesus to obey the commandments. Grace is the God-given desire and power to fulfill the will of God.[12]
Ones obedience to these commands is a direct relation to their love for Jesus Christ.[13]
The follower of Jesus Christ is commanded to testify of him.[14]
There is a direct command to have fellowship with other believers in Jesus Christ. [15]
The Father God will place honor upon the person who serves Jesus Christ and is willing to die for him. Willingness to die for him is a requirement for being his disciple.[16]
If one has no faith, it is impossible to be pleasing to God.[17]
There will be a physical resurrection of both the followers of Jesus (those who have accepted the salvation provided by Christ) and those who have rejected him. The followers will live eternally with Jesus, while the others will live separated from him.[18]
Everybody will have to give an account for his or her words and deeds.[19]
Jesus Christ will come again, but next time he will come as the crowned King to receive his followers.[20]
Re: geology, physics, astronomy, etc.
perhaps you missed this one...
JOHN SANFORD
Ph.D. in plant breeding and genetics, University of Wisconsin, professor at Cornell University
Genesis 1-11 was a great challenge to my faith. Creation, the Fall, and the Flood seemed impossible—and it stood in direct defiance of my old religion, evolution. ... To accept this would result in a total overthrow of my entire mental framework. It would mean that the whole story of evolution, which had come to permeate every field of knowledge, was a lie—a monumental deception. ...
Ironically, after becoming a creationist (by faith, not by knowledge), my mind has been renewed. An overthrow of my old mind was exactly what was needed to make room for a new mind and a new understanding. I have not had to turn off my mind—indeed, the challenge of understanding and defending Genesis has been the most exciting and stimulating phase of my entire scientific career. ... Now that I have become a creationist, I have experienced a renaissance of my interest in all the sciences, including cosmology, astronomy, geophysics, geology, biology, genetics, paleontology, linguistics, and more. ...
You’re mis-understanding imho is w/ uniformitarianism - true creation science does not violate any true scientific disciplines [excl ‘evolution’ of course].
Or if you’d like a complete rebuttal of plate tectonics see Walt Brown’s online book - Part II refutes it w/ his hydroplate theory [creationscience.com].
HYDROPLATE THEORY!!!!! Oh that is RICH. Yeah - and tell me with a straight face that it is only evolution that Creationists disagree with? That one takes the cake as far as losing your mind.
“the challenge of understanding and defending Genesis” is John’s acknowledged mission in life, not science - not utilization of the scientific method to discover reliable models and predictions of the natural world.
Science works because it presupposes natural causes for natural phenomena. Presupposing supernatural causes for natural phenomena has a long and rich history, none of it producing anything of any actual value towards knowing and predicting the natural world.
It isn’t so much that Creationism is wrong, it is that it is absolutely of no use.
May The LORD take off your blinder as He did mine. Someone who has lived in the dark all of their life finds it hard to believe that light exists. When light shines it shines on all subjects. The theory of evolution is as a house of cards, many cards built up upon each other a strong building do not make.
I will pray for you that God will show you that ignorance is not HIS way. Creationism is ignorance. The less someone knows the more likely they are to be a Creationist.
The theory of evolution is a well supported theory based upon easily observed and understood mechanisms. Evolution and natural selection is the inevitable consequence of imperfect replication and competition.
Supposing that God created an imperfect creation that needs constant tinkering to keep the house of cards aloft (ID or Incompetent Design) is not science and it is piss poor theology.
Science is finding NATURAL explanations for NATURAL phenomena. It is the most productive means of gaining reliable information about the natural world that man has ever come upon.
Creationism is explaining natural phenomena through supernatural causes. It is absolutely useless and has produced nothing in terms of knowledge or application.
I doubt you could adequately explain to me the theory - few Creationists can. So the idea that your rejection is based on knowledge I find suspect at best.
In Science there is no alternative theory of evolution other than natural selection of genetic variation. No other scientific theory has explained all the evidence (MOUNTAINS of evidence - if you had ever been to a scientific library, which no doubt you have not, you would see rows after rows of journals with papers on the subject). Evolution through natural selection of genetic variation IS the only scientific explanation.
Ignorance is all creationists have. Ignorance and the delusion that they speak for or know and understand God. Crying about it doesn't help your case.
The more educated someone is the less likely they are to be a Creationist.
Here is the Testimony of a Scientist who believes the Bible. Creationism is ignorance.
Entropy is one of the arguments so stupid that even other Creationists advise you not to use it.
Perhaps you noticed the Sun coming up today? Did you notice that it added energy to ‘the system’?
I suppose you rejected an old Earth based upon evidence and your ‘knowledge’ of thermodynamics?
That is really really funny!
http://www.answersingenesis.org/get-answers/topic/arguments-we-dont-use
Unless you are just being sarcastic I appreciate your prayers. All truth must come from The LORD. If you do truly pray for me concerning truth it would not surprise me if The LORD shines truth all around and darkness is dispelled.
Right now I have to go but hope to answer your other questions, at least in part as they could take an extremely long time to fully answer, later. May The LORD be magnified!
The Heavens proclaim the glory of God.
They are not just a lie and a trick to make us think the universe is billions of years old and billions of light years across - with streams of light from dying stars that never actually existed in the ‘real’ universe of only a few thousand years of age.
Actually, entropy is one of the arguments that evolutionist can only respond to with “that’s stupid” and “didn’t you see the Sun?”
The link that you provided only states that the argument “The 2nd Law of Thermodynamics began at the Fall” should not be used.
Although the Earth is an open system in which energy from the Sun is added, that’s only the smaller part of the equation which also requires information to be added to the system as well for entropy to be reduced.
